A$AP Rocky and Under Armour are renovating community centers across America

Under Armour doesn’t have a history of being the flyest brand ever.

The brand’s main presence has always been on courts and fields. While Nike and Adidas market to casual consumers, Under Armour sticks to their lane.

Kevin Durant even said “No one wants to play in Under Armours,” when asked about his fellow Warrior Stephen Curry’s signature shoe.

After being left out the conversation for so long, the sportswear company is ready to turn their image around. Back in July they announced an upcoming collab with fashion killa A$AP Rocky, but we had no idea what that meant considering he’s an artist.

https://giphy.com/gifs/asap-rocky-teUaqEHLlKWhW

Now it’s clear that Rocky will be working on his own line with Under Armour in hopes of making the brand more fashionable. Todd Montesano, Head of Partnerships for Under Armour, called the collaboration “a first for Under Armour” in a statement.

Along with finessing their clothes, Rocky and Under Armour are working together to renovate community centers for at risk youth. The plan will begin in Baltimore, New York, and Los Angeles and continue to grow from there. Rocky said,

“Under Armour was the company that was most excited about my idea to turn sportswear products on their head while bettering kids’ lives. I now have the ability to create a better situation for today’s kids so they can go from school to a safe place to create without boundaries.”

This is a new direction for Under Armour as well as A$AP. With Rocky bringing his swag to the brand, as he’s done with J.W. Anderson and Alexander Wang, we’re sure to see something great.

As the most fashionable man in hip-hop we can only imagine the heat that’ll come out of this collaboration.

Providing for underprivileged youth and evolving an entire brand, A$AP Rocky is not taking any Ls. With the release of Cozy Tapes Vol. 2 and this next on the rapper’s horizon, Rocky is moving the culture in the direction of his choice.

Hopefully the collab is dope and I’ll be rocking some Under Armour shit soon.

Drake has mad tattoos of people who are still alive, but why my guy?

Drake has never been shy when showing some love to those who inspire him.

When he fucks with someone he lets it be known like when he put Beyonce’s portrait in his studio or recently getting Denzel Washington immortalized on his body.

His tattoo collection is an interesting one to say the least. He has a tat of his favorite cologne as well as the prayer hands emoji, along with a bunch of portraits.

Most notable of his tattoos are the ones meant to honor his peers. This shouldn’t be too weird but it is considering how many tattoos he has dedicated to people still alive.

Don’t get me wrong, if Drake tattooed something on his body in dedication to me I’d be honored as fuck — but it’s still kind of weird.

Here’s the 5 tattoos Drake has that are kinda weird but flattering as hell:

Denzel Washington

The most recent of Drake’s portraits is Denzel Washington in his role of Bleek Gilliam, a fictional jazz trumpeter from the 1990 Spike Lee-directed film Mo’ Better Blues.

The inspiration behind this tattoo isn’t so clear to me but hey at least it’s nice.

Denzel is the coldest motherfucker alive next to Samuel L. Jackson so maybe Drake just wanted some constant inspiration?

Popcaan

Hot skulllll for the Boy 🔥💀 @champagnepapi 💀🔥

A post shared by Doctor Woo (@_dr_woo_) on

In celebration of the unruly general Popcaan, Drake got a flaming skull with the word “Unruly” printed under.

Unruly is Popcaan’s brand, being seen and heard everywhere he can put it. There’s a lot of Jamaican influence in Drake’s recent sound and his relationship with Popcaan has been growing since 2015.

You may recall Poppy saying “OVO Unruly” on Drake’s If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late and his interlude at the end of the song “Know Yourself.”

Lil Wayne

Are we feeling #Drake’s #LilWayne tattoo?

A post shared by Baller Alert (@balleralert) on

Wayne is probably the biggest inspiration in Drake’s rap career and rightly so.

After Wayne put Drake on back in 2009, the Toronto rapper blew up crazy and he’s shown no sign of slowing down since. The Young Money general changed Drake’s whole life so it’s only right Drake gets his face immortalized forever on his arm — right?

I wonder if it’s awkward when they link up and Lil Wayne has to stare at his face on Drake’s arm.

Dennis Graham

@dr_woo_ssc mini portrait of my father

A post shared by champagnepapi (@champagnepapi) on

Weirdness aside, this portrait of Drake’s father is legendary. The portrait being of his father’s mugshot sporting that classic mustache is just too wavy to make fun of.

It’s also a really well done tattoo, especially considering it’s size. I just hope my future mugshot looks as fly as his dad’s so my kids can tat my shame too.

Sade

Drake’s two Sade tattoos are probably the most widely known of his portraits.

He’s made it known on multiple occasions that she is one of the most important people in his life, next to his mother. That’s a pretty big comparison for someone to make so I definitely understand why he got it.

Generally with Drake’s tattoos I understand why he got them I just don’t think every reason deserves an action.

All these portraits, while kind of creepy, are all really well done so at least he isn’t half-assing his tats.

With Denzel Washington being the most recent star immortalized on his body I can’t wait to see who’s next… my money is on a DreamChasers tattoo.

KD gets caught talking shit about Thunder from fake Twitter account

You know that kid in school who no one really liked ’cause they were an asshole and would always say their friends lived somewhere else? That kid is Kevin Durant.

Last night, KD’s Twitter responded to haters as usual but this time was a little different. These tweets made on the small forward’s account were in third person and from the perspective of an outside fan.

The tweets were deleted immediately but multiple Twitter users managed to get screenshots because once something is on the internet, it’s there forever.

Via @harrisonmc15:

Twitter

It definitely looks like KD forgot to switch Twitter accounts before defending himself.

For a guy who says he doesn’t care about what losers like us have to say, he certainly talks about it a lot. It’s not even like he doesn’t respond to hate on a regular basis, all throughout his official Twitter he argues with fans. I guess KD hasn’t accepted his decision yet and still feels the need to explain himself.

The antics don’t stop there. Through heavy investigation several Reddit users found a secret Instagram account linked to KD.

The account named “quiresultan” is private yet is being followed by numerous NBA players, KD’s family and even some rappers. There’s nothing wrong with having a low-key personal account but my son can’t just be normal. The account in question has been seen all over IG getting into petty arguments with children

Is Kevin Durant using a private, secret Instagram account to argue with kids?

A post shared by Sports Blog Nation (@sbnation) on

If all this is actually true or not has yet to be confirmed so until then it’s funnier to assume it is KD out here trying to make it look like he has supporters.

Either way this whole story is hilarious and Twitter has once again gone in.

Things are always better when Twitter gets involved, here’s a few Tweets that make this whole situation that much sweeter.

Donald Glover wins his first Emmy and continues breaking boundaries

Donald Glover (aka Childish Gambino) is the clearest example of “jack of all trades master of none” being complete bullshit.

He’s an actor, director, singer, rapper, producer, and writer — and after last night he’s now a two-time Emmy winner.

Donald’s critically acclaimed FX show Atlanta was nominated for 6 Emmys last night winning Outstanding Director and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.

Donald Glover Atlanta GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY

Beating out shows Silicon Valley and Veep, Donald Glover made history, becoming the first Black person to win in the Best Director category.

During his acceptance speech Glover thanked his wife, his baby, and his unborn baby amongst all his other family. Jokingly he also thanked the other Donald — Trump — for “making black people number 1 on the oppressed list” teasing that “he’s the reason I’m probably up here.”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSlfYi5mOqU

Jokes on Trump aside, Glover’s history-making victory is incredibly important.

Being the first Black person to win that award along with Lena Waithe being the first Black woman to win for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series on Master of None, these creatives are paving the way for real stories from real people of color.

https://giphy.com/gifs/donald-glover-atlanta-fx-l0MYrb0ODRfiUmdoI

Atlanta is a perfect example of a comedy with Black people vs. the usual comedy about Black people. Glover’s show is a surreal take on Atlanta’s hip-hop scene on the surface but really, it’s about a regular guy trying to get by.

In his backstage interviews the Emmy winning actor said “I’m glad I was able to make history but that’s not what I was trying to do.”

His focus to make a good TV show is indirectly allowing more stories to be told from different perspectives without a stereotypical cliche.

The decision to just make the best art possible is apparent in all of Glover’s work.

From his music to his acting Donald proves that he’s not in this for anything else but quality work. Atlanta is gearing up for its second season and Donald Glover is about to start shooting for his Lando Calrissian role in the next Star Wars.

Kid Cudi’s ‘Man on the Moon’ came out 12 years ago and it helped a lot of us

As I listen to “Soundtrack 2 My Life,” I can’t help but feel as vulnerable as I did 12 years ago.

Lines like “I got some issues nobody can see” and “a happy ending would be slitting my throat” speak directly to the me as if forcing acceptance of an emotion I’ve been working to muffle.

September 15, 2020, marked the 12th anniversary of Kid Cudi’s debut album, Man On The Moon: The End of Day. This album features a display of extreme emotions that are too relatable to ignore.

The vulnerability of tracks like “Day ‘N’ Nite” and “Solo Dolo” make them feel handcrafted for each individual listener. Focusing on the highs and lows of depression through Cudi’s lens instead of an outside observer made for digestible and genuine music.

Mental health is a fight that lasts forever, for myself and millions of others. Depression being an internal battle sometimes makes it hard to notice.

Often in urban/low-income communities signs of depression are misunderstood and ignored due to ignorance of the topic. With the release of Man On The Moon in 2009 Cudi introduced a conversation into a community that otherwise wouldn’t have cared.

The album spoke directly to millions of kids without answers.

Kid Cudi GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY

Knowing there was someone of his fame dealing with similar issues was comforting and gave clarity in a sea of uncertainty. Speaking on his loneliness, insecurity and paranoia Cudi manages to make those who feel different have a moment of normality.

Rather than damning these emotions or working towards a change, Cudi instead simply speaks on them as an active participator.

“There are people starving and homeless, you have no reason to be sad” is a statement too familiar to many children. Not understanding mental health, it’s easy to dismiss children as “ungrateful” for feeling unhappy.

On “Soundtrack 2 My Life” Cudi’s purpose is clear “I try to look at myself as a sacrifice just to show the kids they ain’t the only ones who up at night.”

Kid Cudi GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY

With Man On The Moon, Cudi was aiming to bridge the gap between confusion and acceptance that many children are often plagued with as they grow up.

Cudi’s debut album successfully fulfilled it’s purpose in 2009, earning him an incredibly devoted fanbase, some that credit it as the album that saved their life. Being 12 at the time of the album’s release it served as my daily reminder that everything takes time.

The track “My World” deals with Cudi’s insecurity being overcome by his success and drive to be the man. His drive fueled my own, throughout all the downs on the album there were always reminders of ups to look forward to.

Kid Cudi GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY

Throughout the years as I’ve grown, so has the album. Songs that I couldn’t totally relate to began to make sense further cementing this album as a bridge for its listeners.

Songs like “Day N Nite,” which I thought of as just being the catchy single, transformed into a dark story about loneliness and drug use. Listening to it as I write this I can’t help but laugh at how accurate every lyric is.

“The lonely nights, they fade away he slips into his white Nikes, he smokes a clip and then he’s on his way… to free his mind in search of–“.

That’s life right there and I’m definitely not the only person who can relate.

With age comes new discoveries inside Man On The Moon that you couldn’t pick up until you were in the appropriate space. The album is dynamic and shows you exactly why it’s considered one of the most important albums of our generation.

https://giphy.com/gifs/kid-cudi-scott-mescudi-mr-rager-VMpok18Hsx5kY

To have your music continuously impact someone for 8 years straight speaks to the love and care that went into this project.

With mental health becoming more discussed in hip-hop with artists like Logic and Earl Sweatshirt leading the forefront we can never forget about the album that started it all.

Every modern artist will claim Kid Cudi as a huge inspiration for what and how they do what they do.

With Man On The Moon Cudi made a project for an entire generation to grow with and on it’s 8th anniversary we celebrate the impact it has made not only on music but the lives of millions of people.

Long live Scott Scott Mescudi!

Kid from Queens stunts on everyone with first #HoodieMelo Knicks jersey

Starting with footage of him training at the park dolo at 2 in the morning to cooking opponents at pick up games, #HoodieMelo has become a summertime legend.

Carmelo Anthony wearing a hoodie is a problem for anybody, even 2K placed Hoodie Melo at a 98 rating over his normal 84 rating.

Fans are ready for Melo to come out this season in a Knicks hoodie and unlock his full potential. That dream might actually become reality as Knicks superfan Robert Gordon had a custom Knicks jersey made specifically in honor of our summertime legend.

His masterpiece — a Melo jersey with a dope ass hoodie attached.

On paper this idea sounds goofy as hell but to be honest, it’s mad legendary. Melo can’t wear this while on the floor in case his gets shit snatched, but he should definitely come out wearing it EVERY GAME.

No doubt we’re gonna see A LOT of these at the Garden this season (with or without Melo), but you already know who set the trend first.

We managed to speak to the genius from Queens, Robert “Fingers” Gordon, about his idea to bring the Hoodie Melo jersey to life and his low-key insane Knicks fandom.

What was the process behind the Melo hoodie jersey? When did you come up with the concept and how long did it take to create?

“Hoodie Melo was definitely the meme of the summer this offseason, so when someone did the mockup of the Hoodie Melo Knicks jersey, I looked at it and said ‘I should make that.’ I already had a Melo authentic jersey, so I sourced some materials for the hood and then looked for someone who could do it. I reconnected with my bro Squeaksz, who’s been designing clothes for years with his Lethal Inspiration brand. I showed him what I wanted to do and he knocked it out the park.”

Twitter

What do you think about all the Melo disrespect lately? 2K gave him a 84 rating and ESPN ranked him #64 best player in the NBA.

“Honestly, it’s all ridiculous. There aren’t 30 basketball players on the planet better than Melo, let alone 63. Nobody can guard him one on one. He’s good for 30 on any night. He’s been giving everyone work all summer and I think he’s ready for a big year.”

How many Knicks jerseys do you own? What are some of classics you got in the vault?

“I own about 40 Knicks jerseys right now. I’ve been collecting jerseys for a long time, but I’ve focused solely on Knicks jerseys the past couple of years. I have a 50th anniversary John Starks pro cut jersey, the one he wore when he flipped off the entire city of Miami. My other favorite is the Timofey Mozgov game-issued green Christmas jersey. It’s a little big on me…”

Twitter

Do you think it’s time for Melo’s run with the Knicks to come to an end?

“I think Melo still has a lot to offer to the Knicks, but if he’s unhappy here, I’d want him to go somewhere to compete. It would be dope to see him team up with CP3 and Harden in Houston, but I’d really like to see him team up with LeBron. It’s a story 16 years in the making. No matter what, he’s a Knicks legend. Once a Knick, always a Knick!”

Kevin Durant drops Nike KD 10 ‘Celebration’ kicks, but why’s he still mad?

Since signing with the Golden State Warriors last season, Kevin Durant hasn’t had the easiest time getting back in people’s good graces.

After losing a 3-1 lead and joining the same team that handed him that L, KD has been called everything from a snake to a coward.

Instead of the people’s champ he once was, Durant is now the NBA’s favorite villain and he knows it. KD has responded to haters on Twitter and is responding once again with his new sneakers.

His new Nike KD10 “Celebration” features a Golden State Warrior colorway and “MVP Champ” stitching on the heel.

The sneaker looks pretty aight but the main focus are the words printed on the insoles.

Written on the shoe are insults including: “LAME, SNAKE, SOFT, and FOLLOWER”.

Overlapping the words of hatred are KD’s insane stats from his finals appearance against the Cavs.

The decision to continue the drama from his move to Golden State is genius from a marketing perspective. Drama sells and the whole “stepping on haters” metaphor is clever but the whole thing makes KD seem bothered.

For someone who doesn’t care about the backlash it surely comes up a lot around him.

GIF by NBA - Find & Share on GIPHY

Kev, who are you still mad at? You left OKC over a year ago and you’re the second best ball player in the world. Accounting for all your accolades I thought we’d be over this snake stuff but I guess KD isn’t letting it go if the fans don’t.

The sneakers look dope and the “Celebration” theme is really creative. OKC has Paul George and KD has a ring. At this point I’m ready to forget about Kevin Durant being a traitor and just have the season start.

The new Nike KD10 “Celebration” is set to release September 15th for $150.

Amy Winehouse and Nas have a lot more in common than you think

September 14 marks the birthday of two music juggernauts, Amy Winehouse and Nasir Jones. And, as it turns out, they share more than just this date.

Individually the two are legends in their respective rights — Nas a King of hip-hop and Amy a Queen of jazz and soul.

The pair had a deep appreciation of each other and the music they made.

Although they were from completely different worlds their connection was undeniable, with Amy dedicating her single “Me & Mr Jones” to the Queens rapper and Nas recalling her voice saying it “immediately caught him.”

In honor of their birthdays I wanted to celebrate the legend of Nas and Amy and what connects their legacies. Aside from the same birthday, the pair had a lot in common from their life to musical impact.

Timeless music that set the bar for other artists

https://giphy.com/gifs/amy-winehouse-xT9DPvCDCU6Sy44n16

Nas’ Illmatic is widely considered one of the greatest hip-hop albums to date. On top of that, Amy’s unique and powerful voice is one of the most iconic voices in music.

Both are regarded as revolutionaries in their respective genres with Amy influencing the likes of Adele and Lady Gaga, whereas Nas influenced acts like Eminem and Jay-Z

Hip Hop Nas GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY

Amongst inspiring other artists, the two also managed to inspire each other all the time. Amy sampled Nas’ classic “Made you look” for her track “In My Bed” and Nas was her only hip-hop collaboration, so it’s clear to see the respect they had for each other.

Back to Black and Illmatic have stood the test of time and remain a study point for other artists looking to follow in their footsteps.

True Artistry

https://giphy.com/gifs/amy-winehouse-xT9DPInCt0x1MqvGNi

In memory of Amy Winehouse, Questlove of The Roots said “she taught me a lot about jazz” adding on “I thought I had my doctorate in jazz but she showed me there was so much more I could’ve learned.”

Nas is regarded in the same tone amongst every rapper alive, his legacy is untouchable.

Hip Hop Nas GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY

Drake said of Nas, “Nas was somebody that I used to listen to his raps and never understood how he did it.” Nas and Amy alike shared an understanding of their craft that has yet to be duplicated.

Nas is on record calling Amy a true artist and if she were still alive today she’d probably speak the same of him.

Personal Lives

https://giphy.com/gifs/amy-winehouse-GGxtSUMNn6Wgo

This’ll probably come off as a stretch to some but Amy and Nas both related to how they carried themselves.

Although they carried themselves differently, their disdain for glamor and publicity connected them more than anything.

Their laid back demeanor and preference for being alone influenced their individual struggles with alcohol. Both artists have confronted the issue on multiple records, Nas even naming their collaboration “Cherry Wine” (after her guitar Cherry).

The similarities go deeper than that as both artists were raised around strong jazz influence. Nas’ father is jazz singer Olu Daru and Amy was raised around her jazz musician uncles, the pairing seemed to be set in the stars.

https://giphy.com/gifs/nas-flGeLGyj3GT4I

Last but most obvious is their shared birthday, which Amy mentions in her track “Me and Mr.Jones” dedicated to the 44-year-old rapper.

The pairing of Amy Winehouse and Nas is one that was never fully able to flourish. Maintaining their relationship over phone and Skype calls, the duo only managed to spend 1 weekend together.

We’ll never know what could have come out of more time together but on their birthday we can take our time to celebrate the relationship they did have.

The impact they’ve made on music is legendary so let’s appreciate these two icons by keeping them in rotation all day!

Queen of her city: Here’s everything Beyonce has done for Houston so far

Hurricane Harvey hit Houston Texas on August 25th, 2017 and since then countless efforts have been made to help aid the recovery of everyone affected by the storm.

Celebrities like Kevin Hart encouraged everyone from peers to fans to participate in Houston’s aid.

The most notable contributions would come from Houston native Beyonce, who is continuously using every opportunity to provide support and love for her city in its time of need.

Beyonce has been making an intense effort to not only give back to Houston financially (as her pastor Rudy Rasmus said she’s done for years) but has also been hands on with relief efforts for those most impacted by Harvey.

By keeping everything she does to the lowest of keys Beyonce has proved her efforts to be out of love and genuine support.

There aren’t too many details of Beyonce’s contributions to Harvey relief but here’s what we do know what she’s done for Houston so far.

BeyGOOD

A post shared by Beyoncé (@beyonce) on

Beyonce’s own organization BeyGOOD focuses on giving support to those that need it most.

BeyGOOD has actively been on the ground continuing to reconnect families as well as provide shelter, food, clothing, and other needs necessary to help victims get back on their feet.

Throwing luncheons in different locations in need of food including her own St. Johns Church, Beyonce has managed to deploy relief efforts all around the city helping to rebuild her hometown .

Beyonce herself has also been putting in the groundwork, serving food to families herself as well as speaking and inspiring everyone to be strong.

Secret Donations

Anything regarding Beyonce and her finances is mostly kept quiet by the pop star. As the destruction caused by Harvey began, Kevin Hart issued a direct challenge to Beyonce and Jay-Z to contribute funds to Houston.

Soon after, Beyonce’s long time pastor Rudy Rasmus confirmed that Beyonce has always given to Houston saying that “Beyonce is extremely private, and has done a lot that she has requested we don’t announce and publicize, over the years.”

Adding on that Rasmus said, “She has always taken a position to help this city in it’s times of need, and now is no different. She has really stepped up and it’s been a real blessing for us.”

It’s been reported that she has already donated $7 million to Houston’s recovery, Rev. Rasmus however chose not to confirm the number but we can assume that she has and will continue to do a lot more for the city than we will know.

Climate Change Awareness

With increasing global catastrophes occurring like Mexico’s recent 8.1 magnitude earthquake and Hurricane Irma destroying the Caribbean and parts of Florida, climate change is a conversation that needs to start being taken seriously.

Proving that her efforts extend far past her hometown, Beyonce released a video discussing man-made climate change and how it will continue affecting us.

After taking a quick moment to show her disapproval for the hate-filled news we’re plagued with everyday Beyonce goes on to call for a collective effort to raise our voices and bring attention to climate change or the ‘hoax’ as our president likes to call it.

ESPN has officially lost all credibility for playing Melo like this

Slandering Carmelo Anthony seems to be the new trend these days as everyone impatiently waits for him to finally accept a trade and leave NY. Even Phil Jackson had beef with him but all the disrespect he’s endured is nothing compared to what ESPN did yesterday.

ESPN is releasing their annual top 100 NBA player rankings and the list is interesting to say the least.

Dwyane Wade being left off the list as well as putting Lonzo Ball (who hasn’t even played an official NBA game) over players like Tristan Thompson and Serge Ibaka has NBA fans in a frenzy but the most damning thing has to be how they played my son Carmelo Anthony.

Frustrated New York Knicks GIF by NBA - Find & Share on GIPHY

It’s no secret that the Knicks have been trash for years, as a Knicks fan I’ve come to peace with that fact. That being said, I still recognize (as well as many others) Carmelo Anthony as being one of the top NBA players in the league.

At 33 years old Melo has a career average of 24.8 points per game proving his ability to be an elite scorer no matter the circumstances.

ESPN apparently doesn’t feel the same way as I do as Melo is ranked number 64 on their most recent NBA player rankings. Lonzo Ball — a kid who has yet to even debut in the NBA — is ranked above Melo, taking the number 63 spot.

I don’t know what the fuck the folks over at ESPN based this list on but it’s obvious this was at least partially for attention’s sake.

https://giphy.com/gifs/carmelo-anthony-lzqJzosCxR3hK

Melo clearly isn’t the scrub this list makes him out to be so here’s a few players who ranked above him in ESPN’s rankings that can’t hold a candle to him (statistically speaking).

I’ll put Melo’s stats first for clear comparison and the numbers each player was ranked next to their name.

Carmelo Anthony – #64

Eric Gordon – #62

Danny Green – #59

Danilo Gallinari – #54

Harrison Barnes – #58

Melo’s stats clearly trump everyone who was placed above him. I can’t even be mad at ESPN for their rankings though… this is their business model.

Making a purposely controversial list gives them topics for their on-air personalities to yell about, it’s a never ending cycle.

Regardless of how you feel about the Knicks Carmelo Anthony is still one of the greatest basketball players in the world. After the list broke Melo quickly took to Instagram to air out his feelings on his ranking.

Melo wasn’t the only one with a response though as Twitter, in usual Twitter fashion, went in on ESPN and their dumb ass list.
