Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg thinks men are shook to hire women now

Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg has warned women everywhere that leaders of larger corporations are looking to stop hiring women because they don’t want to handle the sexual harassment claims that have been pouring out of every industry.

“I have already heard the rumblings of a backlash: ‘This is why you shouldn’t hire women.’ Actually, this is why you should.”

Sandberg suggested implementing policies that will help the smoothen the process of sexual claims and harassment suits.

Since the influx of sexual harassment allegations that have been coming out as of late, leaders are scared of scandals unfolding before them.

In a long Facebook post, Sandberg wrote:

“The percentage of men who will be afraid to be alone with a female colleague has to be sky high right now. So much good is happening to fix workplaces right now. Let’s make sure it does not have the unintended consequence of holding women back.”

https://www.facebook.com/sheryl/posts/10159569315265177

Sandberg, like a large majority of women in the workforce, has experienced sexual harassment at work herself.

“Still, like almost every woman – and some men – I know, I have experienced sexual harassment in the form of unwanted sexual advances in the course of doing my job… I didn’t work for any of these men. But in every single one of these situations, they had more power than I did. That’s not a coincidence. It’s why they felt free to cross that line.”

Sandberg ended her post with workplace statistics, writing that only  “thirteen countries and 6 percent of Fortune 500 companies are run by women” a mere “13 percent of police officers are women” and we have less than “20 percent of females in the U.S. Congress.”

She urged everyone to recognize the power disparity that exists within our world, not just for women, but for all minorities and oppressed peoples.

“These numbers reveal a power structure that has marginalized women and others for far too long. We need to see more women in these roles – and more people of color, LGBT individuals, and members of religious minorities and underrepresented groups of all kinds.”

But Sandberg wants women at the top. She wants women to thrive in the workforce, rightfully taking their seats at the top, shifting the powers that exist in a typical male-dominated industry.

“It wouldn’t solve all the problems we face if more women were in power – although I believe we could get quite a lot of good done. But one thing’s for certain: many fewer people would be groped and worse while trying to do their jobs. And that would be a major step in the right direction.”

And it certainly would be. With powerful women like Sandberg speaking out against these issues, a feeling of unity runs through the community of women in the workforce.

As long as we remain positive and focused, we can watch the world change, one issue of gender divergence at a time.

The Lamborghini SUV is finally here and it will only cost you 200 racks

The Lamborghini SUV. It’s been talked about for years and many thought it was a myth.

But finally all of the speculation has been put to rest after the insane new announcement of the 2019 Urus and it will only cost you $200,000.

While it was announced back in 2015, this was really just one of those cases of we gotta see it to believe it. This shit is no lie clean but for 200 racks, you really gotta ask yourself, what exactly are you getting here? Well according to the specs,

“V8 twin-turbo engine, striking the perfect balance between raw power and responsive agility. ANIMA driving mode selector with Tamburo system, to switch between 7 unique driving modes, effortlessly. Enhanced safety systems. Cutting-edge on-board entertainment.”

Shit sounds lit I guess! Oh yeah, it also has a level 2 self-driving feature and it goes 190-mph. Pulling up with this to the Hamptons next summer will definitely guarantee you cheeks upon arrival.

Entering the SUV market for the first time, Lamborghini will now be going up against the likes of the Porsche Cayenne, the Bentley Bentayga, and of course the classics Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen and Land Rover Range Rover.

But let’s be honest, this shit is meaner than all of those! Essentially, it’s a cross between the Aventador and Gallardo with rear seats and doors.

After months of road testing and people taking random videos of it (like the one below) the Urus is on the market as you’ll only see the richest of the rich whipping it around in the coming months.

But seriously, if you could actually afford to cop, would you?

Peep Meghan Markle as a woke 11-year-old speaking out against sexism

Meghan Markle and Prince Henry have just recently announced their engagement.

Meghan is the soon-to-be Duchess of England, and will be joining the royal family, and the more we learn about her, the more we love her.

Markle started her activism young, when she was in elementary school. Assigned a social studies assignment to watch television commercials and asses their meanings, Markle noticed a Procter & Gamble commercial saying some racist things.

The ad uses the word “women” rather than “people” in it’s line, “Women all over America are fighting greasy pots and pans.”

In a 2015 UN speech, she said, “When I was just 11 years old, I unknowingly and somehow accidentally became a female advocate.”

“I remember feeling shocked and angry and also just feeling so hurt. My 11-year-old self worked out that if I really wanted someone to hear, well then I should write a letter to the first lady. So off I went scribbling away to our first lady at the time, Hillary Clinton.”

After talking to her father about her feelings, she was told to write letters to a couple of big names, including Hilary Clinton, Gloria Allred, well known civil rights lawyer and of course, Procter and Gamble.

After a month, the slogan was changed, no doubt, due to 11-year-old Markle’s activism.

This lead Meghan to being featured on “Nick News” in 1993.

Her activism started young, and her humanitarianism has followed her well throughout the years. She is a women’s activist for the UN Women’s Political Participation and Leadership program, a platform which promotes equality throughout all sectors of women’s rights.

“It was at that moment that I realized the magnitude of my actions. At the age of 11, I had created my small level of impact by standing up for equality.”

Her strong reaction was due to two boys from her class that joked about women belonging in the kitchen,

“Two boys from my class said, ‘Yeah, that’s where women belong, in the kitchen. I remember feeling shocked and angry and also just feeling so hurt — it just wasn’t right and something needed to be done.”

With her many accomplishments as an actress, activist, and entrepreneur so far, Markle is sure to bring many changes and bridge a more wholesome relationship between the United States and the UN. It’s wonderful to watch you rise!

Prince Harry gets engaged to Meghan Markle, does that make him #TeamSwirl?

Prince Harry is looking to join #TeamSwirl by adding some melanin to his royal family’s lineage. You already know Black folk across the globe are stupid hyped.

If you haven’t heard the news or you were somewhere hiding underneath a pebble this Monday, the Prince of Wales announced his engagement to actress Meghan Markle this morning.

Peep the royal glee

Yeah, this is really happening. We are about to have a Black princess y’all or duchess or whatever.

To us Blacks, it doesn’t matter what Markle’s royal British title is, because to us, all that matters is that she is about to be real Black royalty.

Plus, you already know Princess Diana would be proud. Especially since the gold band ring, Harry designed for his fiancee features a large Botswanian diamond and two smaller outer diamonds from Diana’s personal collection.

Something light for the kids

You know who else is proud? Markle’s parents. Harry made sure he reached out and got their approval. Just because you’re the Prince of Wales doesn’t mean that you can just scoop someone’s daughter, forever.

According to a statement released by the Kensington Palace, shortly after the engagement announcement, her father, Mr. Thomas Markle and her mother, Mrs. Doria Ragland said,

“We are incredibly happy for Meghan and Harry. Our daughter has always been a kind and loving person. To see her union with Harry, who shares the same qualities, is a source of great joy for us as parents. We wish them a lifetime of happiness and are very excited for their future together,” the statement ended.”

But wait, you have to check out Markle’s mama with the dreads flowing in the wind, hann!

https://twitter.com/_maine_89/status/935119950519431168

How’s that for a mother in law, Harry? Too poppin’. But really though she did an amazing job raising Meghan.

Meghan has made it to a whole new level of #BlackExcellence. Meghan has made it to #BlackRoyalty…

She has secured that bag…

She has these white girls tiggidy tight…

She’s feeling to get the royal family turnt…

She has everyone on #BlackTwitter feeling extra good

Nothing can happen to Prince Harry and his newly announced fiancee Meghan Markle. We must protect them at all costs. Even after the wedding which takes place in spring 2018.

The two better get to work after that wedding and put a whole bunch of kids in that Nottingham Cottage. It has a lot of space for biracial angels.

Swizz Beatz just got a business degree from Harvard at 39 years old

Swizz Beatz is officially a Harvard Graduate.

The New York native and long-time producer announced via his Instagram that he received a degree from the Owner/President Management Program at Harvard Business School after completing a modified course.

Swizz wrote:

“Today is graduation day. In life we must keep graduating until the end. When I say we must graduate I’m talking about on all levels not just school. This moment is special to me and my family because many people look up to me and they use my drive to thrive.”

At this point it’s more than safe to say Swizz is an OG in the game.

He’s produced for all of your favorites — from Beyonce to T.I. to Jay — and his ear for unique drum patterns and club smashes helped make him one of the longest-tenured and wealthiest dudes in hip-hop. The degree is just a cherry on top of a legendary career.

To further comment on the scope of his achievement, Swizz even wore a blazer with the words “From the Bronx to Harvard” written on the back, truly showing what it meant for him to reach this position.

Beatz, who was born Kasseem Dean, first mentioned the $33,000-per-credit program back in 2014 when he was accepted, stating that it was “one of the happiest days of his life.”

The nine-week Owner/President Management Extension Program is the same one attended by Antonio “L.A.” Reid.

Swizz is married to Alicia Keys, occasionally engages in beat-making battles and is now a Harvard grad. I’m not sure hat there is anything out there that Swizz can’t do, but I do know that he’s showing people that no matter what your goals are, follow your dreams.

Why we should be paying serious attention to Tyrese’s mental health

Imagine walking away from a movie franchise that has grossed $4 billion worldwide with more to be made? That’s what singer/actor Tyrese Gibson fled to Instagram to do, this past Wednesday.

Gibson posted a photo on Instagram of himself, Dwayne Johnson, and their costar Vin Diesel, and threatened to walk out on the next Fast and Furious movie if Johnson is in it, in what has been a wildly escalating beef.

“I’m sorry to announce that if Dewayne is in Fast9 there will no more Roman Peirce” Gibson wrote. “You mess with family and my daughters survival I mess with yours……… close your eyes dude you’re a ‘Clown.'”

https://www.instagram.com/p/Ba9bgMNHQt7/

Tyrese hasn’t been too fond about his Fast co-star because of recent business decisions and that escalated all over social media for the whole world to see.

The feud between the two bubbled over for Gibson when he caught wind that Dwayne Johnson was planning a spin-off film, Hobbes, staring himself and Jason Statham based off the Fast series that did not include Tyrese.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BaCMqRLF9ZQ/?taken-by=therock

I mean, I can understand bad blood over a couple of low ball jokes, but to threaten to leave a movie franchise if another character is in it is an indication of a deep seeded issue with Tyrese that stems far beyond what The Rock has actually done.

And such is the case. Tyrese is currently going through an ugly divorce that’s unfortunately limited the amount of time he spends with his daughter.

On his Instagram he’s been posting pictures and videos, sharing bits and pieces of his story with #Shaylarocks and #ParentAlienation hashtag. So the news of a potential delay to the production of Fast 9, and, more importantly, his paycheck for Fast 9 only adds insult to injury.

Gibson even said in a post, that he’s not mad about The Rock getting a spin-off movie per se, but rather that, given his financial circumstances, a bone wouldn’t be thrown his way.

“FYI I was never mad at The Rock – I was just mad that he was ‘pitched’ an idea privately and said yes to it without thinking of what I’m dealing with personally,” Gibson wrote alongside a pic of himself and Lee Daniels. “I’m almost broke paying legal fees and is doing what we committed to doing for the #FastFans and #FastFamily cause the fast is tradition it’s not just another Movie. Fast was created to COUNTER images of racism, to counter that WE ARE NOT ONE RACE.”

https://www.instagram.com/p/Ba9H8vCHvyV/?taken-by=tyrese

Matters became more seemingly dire, however, when Tyrese took to Facebook and had what could be described as an emotional breakdown, on camera.

https://www.facebook.com/tyrese/videos/2224401987587385/

At what point do we stop laughing and start asking questions? Because it’s when we normalize and make light of these emotional bursts that people will become less inclined to let them out.

Maybe going to social media was not the right method but when you’re not able to see a child you love after bleeding your pockets to do just that, I can see how correctness would become a secondary priority.

Parent alienation is probably something you could never imagine unless having gone through it but you have to admit it’s not a farfetched claim. After the hearing with his ex-wife Norma Gibson last week Gibson was hospitalized with chest pains, according to TMZ.

Tyrese is clearly going through some real shit. In September his ex-wife told People that Tyrese has been diagnosed as being bi-polar, a mental health disorder.  A payday as big as a Fast 9, one suddenly being pushed back, on top of being away from your daughter, understandably would trigger those symptoms.

But everyone doesn’t see what Tyrese is going through as a mental breakdown or a matter of mental health. Rather, just another rich celebrity being dramatic again.

This is why, from 2014-2015, only 9 percent of Black Americans voluntarily sought out psychological help according study conducted by National Institute of Mental Health.

Mental Health America

It’s also why African Americans are 20% more likely to experience serious mental health problems than the general population.

If you have been watching this feud between Tyrese and the Rock and wondered if something is wrong with Tyrese, the answer is clearly yes!

The internet is going to internet, meaning jokes are going to fly. But you would only be fooling yourself if you did not pay attention to the stresses your psyche is continually under.

Tyrese needs a publicist and a friend to take his phone away but he also needs people to wake up and realize that no amount of money can take away the duress your mental state can be under.

Women’s Convention message is simple and empowering: ‘Stick together’

There was a clear message at the Women’s Convention in Detroit this year: Women are united, and we need to stick together.

2017 has been dark and cloudy with the political and social changes taking place around us. Hollywood blew up with assault claims, rightfully shunning those involved in scandals. Our own president has been repeatedly accused of sexual harassment, only to have accusers written off as “liars.”

Rose McGowan, who came forward with Harvey Weinstein allegations a few weeks ago, which led to her Twitter getting deactivated, joined the convention with a tearful speech,

“Thank you to all of you strong, powerful #MeToos. Thank you Tarana for giving us two words and a hashtag that helped free us. I have been silenced for 20 years. I have been slut-shamed. I have been harassed.”

McGowan stirred up support from the crowd as she, with a glossy glare, motivated all women everywhere to come forward and share their truths.

“I’m just like you. Because what happened to me behind the scenes happens to all of us in society. And that cannot stand, that will not stand. We are free. We are strong. We are one, massive, collective voice.”

The Women’s Convention had plenty to discuss just a short nine months after the Women’s March in January cultivated a 2.1 million strong group of supporters.

“Every woman has a story.”

4,000 people joined the rally, and according to The New York Times,

“Women were tackling a broad and sprawling list of issues, including Republican efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act, threats to the environment, mass incarceration, reproductive rights, workplace rules, the accessibility of child care, treatment of immigrants, protections for transgender people and more.”

We’re fighting like never before for things like abortion rights, women’s reproductive care, and Affordable Health Care for all.

Congressional representative Maxine Waters delivered a keynote speech aimed at Donald Trump’s mistreatment of women.

Via Vox,

“We’re waging our own war against rape and sexual harassment. We’re waging a war against the perverts who believe we can be misused or exploited in the interests of a job, or recognition, or even so-called love…”

Mrs. Waters spoke about the copious number of women who connected with the #MeToo campaign.

“It is very fortuitous that we are gathered here this afternoon in Detroit as we continue to witness a record number of women who are boldly coming forward to reveal disturbing and grotesque acts of sexual harassment, assault, and rape, oftentimes at the hands of men who believed they were too rich and too powerful to ever be confronted or held accountable.”

Mrs. Waters said to the chanting crowd:

“Donald Trump is the most dishonorable and despicable human being to ever serve in the office of the president.”

Sexual harassment claims regarding Trump have been spilling since his infamous “Grab ’em by the pussy” statement was leaked, and Waters, with the full-fledged intention of speaking her honest opinion regarding the United States’ President, empowered women everywhere to lead the resistance.

“This is a man with no good values, no good intentions and no good respect. That’s why I know we must keep fighting, and that women must lead this resistance. We cannot afford to be shut down or shut up by any man, particularly not one as indecent and deplorable as Donald Trump.”

Regarding Trump, Waters wanted to go a little more in depth with her stance. From Vox, “She mentioned the Access Hollywood tape, allegations of sexual assault against Trump, and Trump’s treatment of women politicians, including his ‘stalking’ of Hillary Clinton at the second presidential debate.”

“I want you to know how thrilled I was to participate in the January Women’s March It was not a protest. It was a movement that was founded by and for women from all walks of life who are very concerned with the future and direction of this country. I walked and I talked and I laughed and I cried and I saw those pussycats — and I went crazy.”

“You know how you feel, and you know when you have been violated. You know when you have been mistreated, and when anybody does that to you, and any of these men trying to put you in your place, just remember what Hillary should’ve said,” #CreepGetOffMyBack

Symone Sanders, Bernie Sanders press secretary, addressed race relations and talked about how it was time to focus on Black women.

She spoke about how 53% of white women who voted in 2016 voted for Trump while 94% of Black women voted for Hillary.

There was a discussion held on Friday, “Confronting White Womanhood,” to talk about how to, “unpack the ways white women uphold and benefit from white supremacy.”

The conference garnered a positive response according to the Huffington Post, deeply affecting attendees and successfully refocusing on the issues that collectively hold us back.

Getting involved in this critical time for women’s rights can be as easy as sharing a story on an online bulletin board. What’s important is that women everywhere recognize that each and every one of us is meant to speak up and have our voices heard.

Women Grow is a budding hub for female business leaders in cannabis

There are 29 states so far that have legalized the use of medical marijuana, 8 that have legalized recreational use.

The Marijuana Boom is bigger than ever, and companies in the industry have put their best foot forward in hopes of transitioning to a pro-cannabis country.

Women Grow, a cannabis community accelerator, was started in 2014 by Jane West in Denver, Colorado.

After Leah Heise stepped down in March 2017, Kristina Garcia was offered the position of CEO and she accepted.

Checking out several department roles, Kristina tried a little bit of everything, working in HR & Training, Technology, and Customer Support to help monitor and maintain the company growth.

“I take pride in helping the intelligent and self-motivated Women Grow team do their best work.”

Women Grow lives up to Kristina’s declaration. The company is notable for creating connections on a more personal level. A number of events are offered to the women who are a part of the Women Grow community, including the annual Women’s Summit.

The Women’s Leadership Summit is undoubtably inspired by the amount of women who share an attraction to the cannabis industry.

Every year, hundreds of cannabis industry business leaders come together to empower and connect with one another and share new ideas, inventions, and insights. Garcia credits the best part as the diversity of the crowd.

“It’s hard to pinpoint one highlight, but what I can say are the amazing people we met. Attendees came from near and far, traveling to Denver, CO. We had women from as far as London, England, Puerto Rico to Hawaii and beyond. These amazing women joined together for two days attended workshops and talks. It was incredible to watch the relationships forming. Our summit is often the entry way for newcomers entering the industry. It’s incredible to see the relationship forming and seeing these business leaders from year to year as they develop in their businesses.”

The most engagement comes from their Monthly Signature Meetings that take place on the first Thursday of every month, averaging about 80 attendees per event. She also emphasizes the importance of social media, and the engagement reached through it.

Kristina ties in success to personal connections. Through the events and opportunities offered at Women Grow, members find themselves entering trustworthy business relationships with the community around them.

She shares that through networking events, local social events, regional education symposiums, and national speaking circuits, aspiring and established professionals can connect with cannabis leaders.

It seems for women, the cannabis industry serves as a business hub. Kristina shares the two essential qualities that women in the industry possess:

“Women have unique qualities that benefit them being in the emerging industry. This industry relies on people who have the ability to plan for the unknown, organize a community and provide education. People everywhere are diving into this field because they are able to set the tone and make a change.”

That explains the amount of working mothers who are entering the business and making a killing doing so.

“The feedback we get often from women is how grateful they are for the connections they made at our meetings.”

For young women who are looking to get involved with the cannabis industry, Kristina offers the same advice she would to any young entrepreneur out there: Educate yourself.

“Do not limit your abilities and expect there will be challenging days in this industry.  It is tough but stay committed.”

She suggests to attend relevant programs, events, and conferences. Check out the Women Grow Signature Networking meeting, and stay open to all possibilities.

“Like many of us, your interests may change, be open to pivot as you become more knowledgeable in this industry. Your current skillsets could very well be applied in the space.”

Still, a majority of the United States doesn’t have the freedom the select few do. Marijuana is still illegal in most of the country, but the good news is that shouldn’t stop someone who is interested in the business to be able to invest.

Researching and joining local cannabis groups, finding a training program, attending industry conferences, becoming more educated in the space and engage; these are the key ways Kristina suggests you can begin building your relationships.

“Follow the industry leaders on social media. Read the industry trade publications. And attend Women Grow Signature Networking Event near you!”

As with any new industry, challenges will always arise and need to be faced head on. Considering Women Grow is only a three-year company, you can be sure that they are dealing with the same amount of hustle and changes that any startup goes through.

It’s a great learning experience, as Kristina tells us on a happy note:

“I believe we have found a good pace and now on better footing. Our challenges have helped shape us. We are learning and growing more as a better business.”

Kristina talks about an education platform, an investment webinar with Viridian Capital Advisors, and a soon to be published report with New Frontier Data. “It will be the first piece of research focused on Diversity in Cannabis and will co-host a webinar discussing the findings,” says Kristina.

We’ll continue to watch Women Grow grow, as there’s plenty of new projects in store for the company.

It seems when you join Women Grow, you’re forced to step out into a local, communal comfort zone, which happens to also where you make your work connections.

“Our Leadership Summit is the largest gathering of women in the cannabis industry. Yes men are welcomed and attend our summit. We are proud of the meaningful connections and vital industry knowledge people walk away with after attending igniting drive for success in these business leaders.”

She even gave us a break down of what we can look forward to from the program.

“We’ve just completed a webinar series with Nine Point Strategies on HR and operations practices. Our 2018 Leadership Summit coming up February 1-2 in Denver, CO. The countdown has begun and we are super excited about our speakers and panels.

Well, we’re excited to watch this hub and community grow, and hope to hear plenty of member success stories in the future.

New marijuana studies degree could land you a $70k job out of college

If you’re looking to major in marijuana, the University of North Michigan has just the courses for you!

According to CNBC, students are taking level 400 courses such as “Biostatistics” and “Gas and Liquid Chromatography” in order to graduate with a degree in medicinal plant chemistry.

As the cannabis industry grows, the university has geared its attention towards next year’s anticipated Marijuana boom.

The DFP cites classes such as “organic chemistry, biochemistry, soils, biology, gas and liquid chromatography, biostatistics, genetics, accounting, financial management and perspectives on society,” to be part of the marijuana studies.

The program is a mix of the “finance, marketing, chemistry, biology, botany and horticulture” in the marijuana industry.

The other major focus is marijuana treatments for illnesses ranging from anxiety to cancer.

Right now, NMU is the first school to dedicate its time and efforts into building a curriculum around a program that focuses on the business of the cannabis industry. 29 states have currently legalized marijuana to some extent.

The associate professor and head of the program, Brandon Canfield, told CNBC “We’re gaining students every week. With a full 12 months of recruitment, we expect that to grow.” Canfield added that this could land someone a job where the average yearly salary is $70,000.

The idea for the program started in 2016, after Canfield attended an American Chemistry Society meeting.

Alex Roth, student at NMU, told the Detroit Free Press,

“When people hear what my major is, there are a lot of people who say, ‘Wow, cool, dude. You’re going to get a degree growing marijuana.’ It’s not an easy degree at all.”

Roth has his own reasons for the degree. He shared with DFP that he had a close friend who was born with a gene mutation that left her “visually impaired, gripped by seizures and unable to walk.” Roth explained,

“The family started using the non-intoxicating cannabinoid oils to treat the seizures and the child is now sleeping better, has fewer seizures and has begun strengthening her legs in a bouncing chair… It is a legitimate medicine and it’s helping people. And that makes it more real for me.”

After earning their degree, students are qualified analysts. They will be able to work in a laboratory and research marijuana related studies.

It’s pretty cool to see these things becoming normalized in our culture. Hopefully the study of marijuana continues to grow and in turn offer more opportunities for business and medicine.
