An NFT party scene in NYC is on the rise: How to get your music minted

Every first Thursday of the month, at OS NYC, an NFT party scene and culture is bubbling.

At the most recent BRONXLYN NFT event, artists Jay Prob and Rocky Snyda (the duo behind FUTRxLGND) paved the way for two new artists to rocket themselves into the NFT stratosphere.

Pull up to the next FUTRxLGND NFT party at OS NYC on April 7. Artists looking to get their song minted for FREE submit your entry HERE.

Artists Mareko and Carter Brown stumbled into FUTRxLGND’s next big thing by accident.

Easy concept. The song with the best audience reception gets a chance to make itself heard on a bigger stage with a bigger audience.

So how come two artists came out on top?

One hinge date-turned-music-contest, and another last-minute pull-up, brought Mareko and Carter to the next level.

The Jay-Snyda duo took started off their joint journey as NFT pioneers with a bang as the two founded their FUTURxLGND brand, soon after welding their solo songs together to make their collaborative debut: “BRONXLYN.”

“I’m glad that I ended up trusting his vision,” said Snyda.

Who was initially a little skeptical of the blended song, instead of the regular EP collaboration. “It was really cool,” said Jay, “mostly because people like Rocky as a person more than me,” the rapper joked.

Creative direction lay in the hands of Jay and Snyda too, as they directed and edited the entire “BRONXLYN” piece – basing the music video in locations inspiring their rap repertoires now: an “infamous diner” in the Bronx, and Snyda Chicken.

“People like seeing us do things together,” said Jay. Previously the artists have joined forces to bring their music into the main domain, even re-inventing the concert wheel with subway jam sessions.

What’s an NYC NFT party without NFTs? Meet the winners

Neither artist intended to be there that night.

But swarms of sky-high 100s emoji paddles filled the room when the crowd heard the sound of Mareko and Carter Brown. “The reaction that they both got […] was just kind of undeniable,” said Jay.

It was a rare opportunity for any artists in the making to get their voices out in the open.

“It’s not something as an artist that you experience too often […] You don’t really get a chance for people to hear your music live and see a reaction,” said Carter.

But these artists took to the main stage next to Jay and Snyda, swarmed with love for their tracks: “Veronica Decides to Die,” and “Your Cool.”

Mareko and Brown showed up completely at the last minute to the event as those around them convinced them to come to the first live Phlote vote.

Snyda and Jay laughed about how unplanned both artists’ submissions were. “First of all, let’s shout out to how small New York is,” said Snyda. “I feel like it’s really funny that you guys ended up winning when one: Mareko you weren’t even supposed to be there, and two: Carter you were about to not be there.”

Mareko and Carter had no intention of storming their way to the top that night. Snyda was glad they did though and felt “like everything just worked out the way it was supposed to work out.”

Mareko shows up and shows out

Mareko is an up-and-coming artist with an eclectic style. From electric guitars to electronic beats and smooth bars, the 22-year-old is breathing fresh air into the NFT space.

“Like they almost didn’t even play my stuff, because they were about to wrap up,” said Mareko. But the musician got her chance to hear her beats when she called out Jay and Snyda for playing mainly male musicians.

Her January 2022 release (“Veronica Decides to Die”) has just topped over 4000 Spotify streams and 2000 views on YouTube, as the artist looks to unlock new levels in her music game.

“I feel like I was kind of avoiding looking in people’s faces too much,” said Mareko when her single was mid-play before she realized just how much the crowd liked her head-banger song at the NFT party.

The artist went on to describe how her song stood out from the rest, and how that originality carried her to the win. “It was the most different to everybody else’s […] kind of hip-hop stuff and my song’s a bit more punk-rock oriented.”

Mareko was no stranger to the NFT space though. “I was already into Web 3.0, NFTs, and all that stuff, but I just never acted on it,” said the artist. The second BRONXLYN event was the step that took her to that new height out of her comfort zone.

Carter Brown unlocks the heat

Paraprofessional by day, rapper by night, Carter strives to be “the next best thing to hit the music scene.” The Queens native was raring to bring his music into the NFT space and find a new platform for his sound.

“The first event I wanted to go to was to just learn a lot, and I did,” said Carter. But the rapper thought the BRONXLYN NFT event “was a one and done thing.”

The tune Carter played that night was definitely a switch-up. The artist focuses on slower R&B or rap, so the pop vocals and upbeat record showed the audience another dimension to the musician’s many sides.

Carter played his main single “Your Cool” that he’s pushing, with over 114,000 streams on Spotify already and a pending music video. “It’s different from the rest of my music and it’s different from everything else I heard that night […] they rockin’ with it,” said the rapper.

Check out Carter Brown’s music NFT here.

“The reaction that they both got […] was just kind of undeniable,” said Jay about the passion the audience felt for both of their drops.

Amongst the sea of trap and rap music that night, these two artists shone without any hype around it. “I feel like our music spoke for itself,” said Mareko.

Curating a community of dope BIPOC music artists

The NFT space and those that built it are making moves and paving the way for a new wave in the music industry.

The potential is boundless and exciting to see. “You guys might be pioneering a lot of s**t that you don’t even realize,” Snyda said to the winners.

Jay and Snyda’s vision is clear. “We’re really just like road-mapping BRONXLYN in the world of Web3 […] continuing to have those real-life interactions and events too where we can help people like these two come into Web3 and do their thing,” said Snyda.

NFTs aren’t always so straightforward for a musician.

At times it can feel overwhelming and backward for artists new to the Web3 scene though. Mareko highlighted some of the fears artists can have about these things, “I’m into this technology and stuff, but I’m not trying to compromise my artistry.”

It’s exciting to see what’s in store for visionaries like Jay and Snyda, and artists with new launchpads like Mareko and Carter and where they’ll take the NFT space next.

Sony Michel shakes up a billion-dollar market with PWRFWD

PWRFWD and Sony Michel have made it to the Solana blockchain…

This is the NFL star’s first NFT project.

What’s an NFT again?

Advancement in technology increases at an incredible rate every day.  Cell phones, computers, and the resource that is online digital world is constantly evolving on a daily basis.

There are more and more careers that can be done remotely and elements of life are becoming more and more efficient.  The most recent innovation the internet has blessed us with, are called NFT’s.

nft definition

NFT stands for Non-Fungible Token.  An NFT is a unique and non-interchangeable unit of data stored on a blockchain.  A blockchain is a digital form of a ledger.

An NFT exists on the internet and can be anything from a photo, audio, video, basically anything digital.  What makes it special is that when it is an NFT, it has what is essentially a certificate of authenticity.

An example of this related back to the world in real life would be something like the Mona Lisa.  Although there are several photos, duplicates, etc, there is only one official, and authentic version.

Bored Ape NFT

Currently, artists and musicians are taking advantage of this technology, but we have barely seen the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the utility it can provide.  Many artists are favoring selling their work as NFTs vs tangible products.

In the past, for example, a painter would have to sell their work for a fraction of what the seller would end up flipping it for.  But when they sell as an NFT, because it is authenticated and recorded on the blockchain, they can receive a royalty every time it is resold.

Not only is there a value in terms of collectibles or memorabilia, but it could also provide exclusive advantages.  For example, a business could release a limited amount of NFT’s that are essentially like a “VIP” card and say when in possession, the owner will receive a discount on all purchases.  Another unique form of NFT is called “ZED run”.

On this platform, you can use Ethereum (a cryptocurrency) to purchase racehorses.  Each horse is an NFT that you can both sell, race, and breed.  When you win races, you are paid in Ethereum.  This is great because the value of Ethereum has gone from $775 on January 1st, 2001, to $3767 on December 31, 2001.

Cryptocurrency isn’t the only thing that has been bullish the past few years.  It took the world a few years to recognize NFTs but the NFT market over the course of the past three years has been exploding.  In 2019 the trading volume was $8.6 million.

Eleven days into 2022, the volume is over $2.3 billion dollars on OpenSea alone, which is an online marketplace for NFT’s.

Celebrities have also been embracing the NFT world.  Jay-Z, Serena Williams, and Logan Paul have all purchased NFTs for upwards of $250,000 dollars.

Sony Michel’s entry into the NFT world

Los Angeles Rams running back, Sony Michel, is not only patronizing NFT’s but he is also releasing his own.  To commemorate his first year in LA, he is launching a limited edition drop of NFTs.

The platform he is using to release both his digital and physical products is called ‘PWRFWD’, an athlete-to-consumer marketplace.

“I love what PWRFWD is about and I’m excited to drop my product in such an innovative way.”

-Sony Michel

In order to make this come together, Sony partnered with graphic designer and former Washington State football player Dallas Hobbs.

The collaboration they were able to come up with produced an abstract representation of Michel sporting a set of horns in front of a royal blue cityscape.

“We’ve got the buildings and palm trees in the background to pay homage to LA, but the centerpiece is Sony.”

Ultimately, the collection is a nod to the Rams running back’s reputation for physicality on the football field. “When I look at the concept,” said Michel, “it reminds me of my running style. That’s me, always focusing on yards after contact.”

5 photographers who are making big ETH from NFTs

At Kulturehub, we have touched on the ever-expanding market of photographers and NFTs many times.

But, we are more than willing to give a summary to those who are unfamiliar with their unique place in the art world. NFT’s (Non-Fungible Tokens) are any digital assets that people pay real money to own. In the art world specifically, they are pretty much any piece of art that can be purchased and owned digitally.

NFT’s are an interesting and somewhat controversial technological and artistic topic. Some people believe that NFT’s are the art of the future. Some people scoff at the idea of owning something that is subjective “not real.”

However, as our society continues becoming more reliant on technology, the existence of NFT’s and NFT artists has slowly become increasingly legitimized.

It’s also important to remember that nothing legitimizes art more than money and popularity. NFT’s are becoming more and more popular every day, and people are investing more and more money into digital artwork.

Lately, people have been paying outrageous amounts of money for photographs. Photographs that are deemed iconic are particularly popular. Let’s take a look at 5 photographers who are already heavy in the NFT circuit.

“Love Is War” by Aimos Vasquez – NFT sale price $125,000 (40 ETH)

Via Instagram

You may be familiar with Aimos Vasquez from this extremely iconic photo that he took of XXXTentacion. The photo is currently the only photo left on X’s Instagram, the second most liked photo, and the most commented photo in Instagram history.

The photo was placed in a collection of his concert photos entitled: “Now Crediting: Aimos”, and was auctioned as an NFT. It was put to auction on the online asset marketplace Blockparty and the collection sold for an undisclosed amount of money.

Aimos is still snapping dope pics of your favorite artist. If you want to support him and his amazing photography, check out his Instagram and the portfolio on his website.

“Until We Disappear” x “White Roses for My Soul To Keep” by Randall Slavin – Combined sale price $22,000 (6.8 ETH)

“Until We Disappear” (courtesy of Randall Slavin)

On May 18, 2017, rock legend Chris Cornell tragically died by suicide at the age of 53. It was recently discovered that, only months before he passed, he had done a photoshoot with photographer Randall Slavin. Slavin, with the approval of Cornell’s widow, decided to mint and sell the unreleased photoshoot as NFT’s.

Two NFT’s went up for auction, one entitled “White Roses for My Soul To Keep“, and the other entitled “Until We Disappear.

Each of them is essentially slideshows of the different portraits that Slavin captured of Cornell in his final photoshoot. They were purchased using Cryptograph.

A percentage of the proceeds from the sale went to Phoenix House California, which is a trio of non-profit drug and alcohol rehab centers. Cornell was on drugs at the time of his death and struggled with addiction through much of his life, so it seemed to be the most fitting place to allocate money.

You can see the previews of these two NFT’s here. If you want to support Randall Slavin and his beautiful work, be sure to check out his website, and his Instagram.

NFT artworks by Matty Furious – Total estimated value $61,008.42 (19.217 ETH)

Terminal Stop Edition 1 of 1 by Matty Furious

Absurd cityscapes, vintage video games, and eerily familiar early 2000’s computer aesthetics. What do these things all have in common? They are all attributes of the insanely difficult-to-describe NFT’s created by photographer Matty Furious.

While NFT’s have the tendency to be sort of interesting and atypical, there is no artwork I have seen quite like Matty’s.

His work is so interesting because it is typically composed of things that seem so familiar, but you know you have never seen before. These familiar elements come together to create new ideas and fantastically chaotic worlds.

Matty’s work is currently available to view and purchase on SuperRare. You can also follow him on Twitter where he posts updates on new NFT’s he’s dropping. You can also subscribe to his Youtube channel where he makes wild videos with similar aesthetics to his NFT’s.

NFT artworks by photographer Elise Swopes – Total estimated value $339,772.88 (107.027 ETH)

We have already interviewed the brilliant Elise Swopes regarding her work and the NFT’s market. However, in case you weren’t familiar, Elise is an artist, a name-brand collaborator, an NFT creator, and a pretty remarkable human.

Her NFT’s are beautiful, they typically involve the distortion of stunning city pictures that she takes herself. She manipulates stunning, but ordinary environments into artwork that changes reality.

Recently her NFT’s have seen a great amount of popularity. In fact, some of her pieces have sold for over 40,000 dollars worth of cryptocurrency!

She is quickly climbing to the top of the NFT world, and you should be there to enjoy the climb. Go looking through her website, her SuperRare page, and her Instagram to keep up to date with all of her artistic developments.

Anna McNaught total NFT assets have an estimated worth of $105,000 (33.2 ETH)

Anna Mcnaught is an extremely talented photographer, photoshop artist, and NFT bag collector. She has dropped several impressive NFT’s along with her portfolio of far-out digital art.

Her Instagram is packed with beautiful, colorful, unique pieces that stand out even in the field of digital art. She has some NFT’s dropping on August 15th, so we highly recommend you hop over to her Instagram if you are interested.

Also, check out her website for a more comprehensive overview of her portfolio and everything she has to offer. You can shop for her work directly on her website.

A portion of the proceeds from your purchase will go to the environmental organization The Sierra Club. She’s one of the next big things in the NFT world, so check her out today.

Photographers need to get with NFTs

Photographers are having a tremendous amount of success selling their art as NFTs, so it looks like NFTs are not going anywhere anytime soon. Whether or not they are the future of art is yet to be seen, but it is worth it to take some time to get lost in this new and exciting art medium.

If you are new to this, start with these awesome photographers and see how you like their NFTS and work. You may just find that you appreciate digital art more than you ever thought possible.
