Shoutout to Rihanna for raising over $2 billion for global education

By now, it should be evident that Rihanna is far beyond just a music artist.

Her beauty line, Fenty Beauty, has been recognized as one of the first cometic lines to include shades representing all girls of color, she’s a fashion icon, and her contributions to raising money for global education have reached a staggering $2.3 billion to date.

This past Friday (Feb 2nd), the Anti artist attended the inaugural GPE Financing Conference in Dakar, Senegal, where she  spoke and thanked those who’ve pledged and donated. She said,

“We’ve made tremendous progress today, but of course, our work is never done. We have a long way to go. This is a fight we’re never gonna stop fighting until every boy and every girl has access to education.”

This is actually nothing new for Robyn Fenty. In 2016, she was named a global ambassador for education by GPE, and that following February, in 2017, she earned Harvard’s Humanitarian of the Year Award for her work through her Clara Lionel Foundation and for constantly promoting education in various parts of the world.

Back when she accepted the award, Rihanna spoke on what being a humanitarian meant to her and why it’s a continued mission.

“We’re all human. We all just want a chance, a chance at life, a chance at an education, a chance at a future, really. At CLF [Clara Lionel Foundation], our mission is to impact as many lives as possible, but it starts with just one. Just one. As I stare out into this beautiful room, I see optimism, I see hope, I see the future. I know that each and every one of you has the opportunity to help someone else. All you need to do is help one person, expecting nothing in return. To me, that is a humanitarian.”

GPE’s Financing Conference attracted some of the worlds most renown leaders, including seven heads of state, more than 60 ministers, the President of the World Bank, leaders of UN agencies, civil society organizations, and more, according to Global Citizen.

Most notably, French President Emmanuel Macron, attended the event Friday along with Macky Sall, the President of Senegal.

Although having not released an album in two years and shying away from many interviews, it’s clear Rih is still hard at work.
