Today, Carmen Perez-Jordan, President and CEO of The Gathering for Justice, is hosting a live fundraiser on Instagram at @msladyjustice1, with friends, guests, and activists to raise critical funds for individuals and communities in need.
The event will begin at 5:00 pm EST, and feature notable activists such as Perez-Jordan, Shaun King, Mysonne Linen, and many more.
This event will garner support for individuals and communities in need of desperate help during the pandemic by announcing the creation of a new Rapid Response Fund.
With grants from The Brooklyn Community Foundation, Robin Hood Foundation, and Emergent Fund, The Gathering for Justice will launch a COVID-19 Community Relief Fund, and will begin accepting applications next week from people 15-25 years of age who (or their family members) have recently been released from incarceration in New York.
A portion of Friday’s proceeds will go towards increasing and broadening the reach of the Community Relief Fund, which has a starting investment of $25,000.
The Gathering for Justice is a nonprofit founded in 2005 by Harry Belafonte and led, since 2010, by CEO Carmen Perez. The mission is to end child incarceration and eliminate the racial inequities that permeate the justice system.
With this live fundraiser on @msladyjustice1’s Instagram account, The Gathering for Justice is continuing its efforts to not slow down during the pandemic, but rather increase efforts to help families and communities in need.
The stigma around youths recently-released-from-incarceration needs to be eradicated. With The Gathering for Justice’s efforts, we as a country inch closer to this becoming a reality.
This live event will serve as an extraordinary fundraiser, as well as an opportunity for people to learn more about these initiatives and movements and hear from some of the activists on the frontlines of social justice reforms.
Tune in to @msladyjustice1 IG account at 5:00 EST, 2:00 PT.
