Two days ago author and host of the Breakfast Club, Charlamagne Tha God, shared what appeared to be never seen before comic exerts of the animated show Boondocks.
Using the hashtag #BoondocksBack, Charlamagne uploaded several of the clips with a message from the show’s creator, Aaron McGruder, who said these were for Black History Month, but as well as “for fun” and to see if “he still has it.”
“Did these for fun (and to see if I still could). More to come… exactly how much more is tough to say,” he said via Charlamagne Tha God’s Instagram page.
“These strips were only possible due to the enormous talent of my good friend Seung Kim, who did the animation for the old show – and he’s a busy guy. Thanks to him and thanks to Charlamagne for putting these out for me while I get my Instagram act together,” McGruder added.
Boondocks was an animated satire on modern culture that aired weekly on Adult Swim. Known for its controversial takes and crass style, the program became a cult favorite and prophetic, even.
Whether mocking BET’s lack of content in their “Hunger Strike” episode or “The Story of Thugnificent”, which assembles Snoop Dogg and Busta, Fat Man Scoop, Sway, Nate Dogg, and Xzibit for a spoof of Atlanta rap and the DVD beef culture of the mid-00s, Boondocks was always on cue to say what everyone was really thinking, no matter how inappropriate.
So you can imagine the excitement upon hearing about a possible return.

In these short couple of new scripts, he tackles Russian collusion, Robert Muller, R. Kelly as well as “Political N*ggas vs. Get Money N*ggas,”
This makes you wonder what kind of show he could put together considering 21 Savage, Fyre Fest or all the other bizarre events that have transpired.
I’ve heard on many occasions people lament how great Boondocks would be in today’s era where the political world is just as crazy as Hollywood and visa vera, and it seems like McGruder heard their call.
Although he wasn’t involved with the final season of the show and has since moved on to a different Adult Swim program, Black Jesus, the imprint he’s left has kept the door as open as it was when he left.
Whether McGruder gets Boondocks off the ground is yet to be seen but he sure does have a good bit of people behind him hoping he pulls it off.
