Rihanna continues to boss up, is now the official ambassador of Barbados

Rihanna’s career is downright historic at this point.

And late last week, according to a statement from the Barbados Government Information Office, the 9-time Grammy winning singer, songwriter, actress, and businesswoman can now add “Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary” to her résumé.

Rihanna’s responsibilities for her home country include “promoting education, tourism and investment for the island,” the statement revealed, as she is able to speak for, sign and conclude on any agreements on behalf of Barbados, as well.

Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley expressed how proud she was of the Anti artist who has heightened the attraction of the island and has been one of the most generous to give back. Motley said,

“Rihanna has a deep love for this country, and this is reflected in her philanthropy, especially in the areas of health and education. She also shows her patriotism in the way she gives back to this country and continues to treasure the island as her home. She has also demonstrated, beyond her success as a pop icon, significant creative acumen and shrewdness in business. It is therefore fitting that we engage and empower her to play a more definitive role as we work to transform Barbados.”

Rihanna has been a cultural ambassador dating back to 2008 and has been doing promotional work for its tourism ministry since. Her new position as the nation’s ambassador is no fluke. It’s a role Rihanna in passionate about and has been grooming to take over for over a decade.

In a statement, the singer said she “couldn’t be more proud to take on such a prestigious title in my home country.” Rihanna said,

“Every Barbadian is going to have to play their role in this current effort, and I’m ready and excited to take on the responsibility. I look forward to working with Prime Minister Mottley and her team to reimagine Barbados.”

Rihanna, time and time again, shown her business acumen and mogul mindset. Heading the annual Diamond Ball, benefitting the Clara Lionel Foundation and launching a beauty line are everyday headlines.

Just last year she was named Harvard University’s Humanitarian of Year, being dubbed ambassador of a country, for Rihanna is hardly surprising.

You cannot say there aren’t examples of women who are leading the pack and set a good example for the girls coming up. She’s multifaceted, independent, and takes matters into her own hands.

Now, you can just call her a politician, too.
