Did Jay-Z name ‘4:44’ after the club where Solange washed him? An investigation

Folks, we officially have a Jay-Z-themed conspiracy theory on our hands.

Last night, Twitter user @StephenOssala posted a picture at at Le Bain, a nightclub in Manhattan’s worst neighborhood, The Meatpacking District.

But this picture had nothing to do with models and finance dudes buying overpriced bottles of watered-down vodka, no this was far more disturbing.

The address at The Standard is apparently 444 w 13th st. While this may seem like a pretty uninteresting detail in your otherwise fruitful life, this is the precise club that, as @StephenOssola notes, Solange Knowles ‘beat Jay-Z’s ass in the elevator.’

If you’re unfamiliar with the altercation, Solange was wiling on Hov for kind of unspecified reasons after a Met Gala afterparty at The Standard.

The incident in May of 2014 caused wide speculation about possible out of wedlock activity by Jay-Z against Solange’s sister Beyonce.

Here’s cell phone footage of the incident if you’re into that kind of thing.

Now, Jay-Z has claimed that his album 4:44 and the titular track were named after Jay-Z woke up one night at 4:44 am and wrote the soul-bearing song… likely story.

Jay told iHeartRadio in exclusive commentary about the name of the album and song:

“‘4:44’ is a song that I wrote, and it’s the crux of the album, just right in the middle of the album. And I woke up, literally, at 4:44 in the morning, 4:44 AM, to write this song. So it became the title of the album and everything. It’s the title track because it’s such a powerful song, and I just believe one of the best songs I’ve ever written.”

While that’s all well and good, Twitter was not having it. This couldn’t just be a coincidence… could it?

We may never know whether or not Jay-Z named his album after the address of The Standard

It’s truly one of the great mysteries of our time.
