How Lil Baby went from jail to becoming the voice of his generation
Before he was recognized worldwide as the artist known as Lil Baby, Dominique Armani Jones was just a kid from Atlanta.
The crazy part is that it wasn’t too long ago when the breakout superstar was locked up, hustling all over town, and not even thinking about doing music.
Dropping out of high school in the 10th grade, he would lead a life in the streets and make a name for himself quickly. Unfortunately, that fast life would catch up to him as he would spend a couple of stints in jail.
It wasn’t until he spent two years locked up in 2014 that he decided to turn it all around. When he was finally freed in 2016, he had a choice: go back to his old life or make a drastic change.
Luckily, he had the right people in his corner who pushed him to pursue his talents. Teaming up with 4 Pockets Full and the powerhouse known as Quality Control (who also manage the Migos, Lil Yachty, etc.), Lil Baby never looked back.
In just three short years, he’s established himself as one of the most respected rappers in the game, dropping arguably the album of the year and racking up over 11 billion streams. He’s released several projects, videos, and has toured all over the world.
His sound is now inescapable and undeniable as both his fans and peers would agree that he’s already reached that GOAT status.

His latest project, My Turn, just clocked in its fourth straight week at Billboard No. 1 and it’s showing no signs of slowing down. So what’s next for Lil Baby? A lot.
Most of the time when artists shoot up as quickly as he has, they end up disappearing just as fast. However, Lil Baby recognized the platform he has now and is using it to spread a real message and incite change.
As a victim of the criminal justice system himself, and with the recent events in the Black Lives Matter movement, his latest single, “The Bigger Picture,” shows us a whole other side of Lil Baby we’ve never seen before.
The video for the song shows a jewelry-less Lil Baby peacefully protesting side by side with his people in his hometown of Atlanta.
His message is clear: he won’t fall back as his brothers and sisters are victimized by injustice. He wants to be a voice for them to navigate these tough times and rise up stronger than ever.
This song and video really shows Lil Baby’s growth as an artist and gets us hyped for what he’s going to do next. He’s accepted his role as the voice for so many of the voiceless and it’s artists like this who will be remembered as some of the greats.
