Why SpringHill Entertainment’s vision for NBA 2K20 is hotter than it looks

NBA 2K and SpringHill Entertainment are partnering up for 2K20, elevating the buzz around the game to even greater heights. Keeping the vision even more real, SpringHill Entertainment, the award-winning content company, is headed by LeBron James and Maverick Carter. It is just one of the pair’s many business ventures.

NBA 2K20 already had new, exciting players changing teams and transcendent rookies joining the league. The game also includes new throwback squads that users can select as well as all-decade teams ready for competition. There’s also the partnership between 2K and United Masters to promote new music and emerging artists.

NBA 2K20 has so many new and exciting additions basketball games have never seen before, not to mention the WNBA option. Now, we’ve learned the game is going to get even better.

SpringHill Entertainment has production and creative control of NBA 2K20’s MYCAREER cinematic narrative: When The Lights Are Brightest. The company collaborated with the Visual Concepts team to write, direct, and cast this year’s 2K story mode.

This trailer is dripping with everything you can ask for from a sports video game story mode. Che, the user-controlled main character, is on a quest for success and virtue both on and off the court.

In addition to Maverick Carter and Lebron James, the storyline features the voices of Idris Elba, Rosario Dawson, Ernie Hudson, and more.

“I mean you are so much more than basketball,” Che’s advisor tells him.

These words are of course in the same vein as Carter and James’ other company, UNINTERRUPTED, and its slogan “More Than An Athlete.” In 2K20, Che will have to make decisions that go beyond basketball.

Life is more complicated than decisions that seem easy on the surface. LeBron James realized, awhile ago, that his choices influenced tons of other people around the world. He has lived by this understanding ever since.

When you have a platform, you either use it to do good, or you fail. There is no middle ground when today’s political and sport climates intersect.

Now, SpringHill Entertainment and 2K are giving users the power to make these choices themselves. It’s a dope new look for a game that represents the sport where athletes have the most power and loudest voices.

Carter, CEO of SpringHill Entertainment and UNINTERRUPTED said:

“The story of ‘When The Lights Are Brightest’ in NBA 2K20 reflects the story of today’s modern athletes, from dealing with the pressures of fame, demands on and off the court, and outside influences, athletes face a tremendous amount of obstacles.”

He continued, “SpringHill Entertainment exists to tell compelling stories and in this case, we were able to draw on our own experiences with LeBron and other athletes to create a narrative that’s authentic and a bit of a peek behind the curtain. Fans of NBA 2K20 are going to be amazed at the level of detail we were able to get to in this film.”

NBA 2K20 comes out Sept. 6 and with all the new features coming with this game, we are stoked.
