Bans has operated his whole career with this imma-get-it-on-my-own mentality. Yung Bans is an independent artist, a feat that is increasingly more difficult each year in the music industry.

Yung Bans, whose real name is Vas Coleman, could also be referring in that “PRADA ZOMBIE” line to DJ Akademiks, a hip-hop personality that shows love and support to many artists.

But for some reason, not to Yung Bans.

Well, looks like Akademiks, a guy that constantly gets clowned on for being lame, is a clown again, as Misunderstood is doing very well in its first few days.

Future showed love to Bans, and as the team president of #HotBoySummer, his cosign holds a lot of weight. Future is featured on the album, along with a stacked roster that includes Young Thug, Gunna, Lil Durk, Nav.

Even more impressive are other features on Misunderstood, such as the late great XXXtentacion, and currently-locked-up 03 Greedo and YNW Melly. The plethora of high-octane rap artists is impressive as hell and lets us know Bans is respected in the industry.

Yung Bans has a sound to him that is certainly relatable to Young Thug and the new-age of rap that Thugger helped spur.

With faster-paced, more forceful songs like “Going Wild,” “Going Bezurk,” and “Red Dead,” Yung Bans shows off his trap sound and lyrical ability. These songs contrast nicely with softer, more upbeat melodies in “100 shots” and “Touch The Stars.”

Yung Bans has a range that is sure to only improve as his career goes on.

This album would be hot for an experienced rapper working after years of learning their voice. Bans is only 20, and the fact that Misunderstood is his debut album is nutty. It’s going to be exciting to watch him grow.

Like other Atlanta rappers, Bans shows love and receives it back from his peers in the industry. Atlanta, after all, is home to Gucci Mane, Young Thug, Migos, and Lil Baby, just to name a few. And Atlanta artists really put on for their friends like no other city.

Bans is just the next artist in a long line of talented musicians from the area. He utilizes his vocal range very well and has a flow that works on so many beats. His lyrics are unique and surprisingly witty for someone his age.

If he’s not already, Bans will become a household name, whether we like it or not. Keep pushing Young King.
