Teacher gets suspended for giving kids assignment with Kodak Black lyrics
A teacher at a Georgia middle school has been suspended after handing out an assignment with Kodak Black’s verse from the song “Drowning” with A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie.
Crishana Wright noticed something amiss when her daughter Kalani brought home an assignment littered with profanities… because, after all, it was an assignment revolving around Kodak Black lyrics.
The specific assignment was to take Kodak’s verse and turn his lyrics into something positive.
How exactly 6th graders are supposed to turn the following lyrics into something 6th grade appropriate is unclear:
“Just bought a brand new chain from Avianne/N***a with attitude but I ain’t from Compton/Lil Kodak b***h I’m Polo’d down like Carlton/Sniper Gang I put a n***a on a carton.”
Crishana Wright was shocked to see the assignment and went to the superintendent after reading her daughter’s homework. Wright told WSB-TV Atlanta about her indignation,
“I’m reading all these words and I immediately asked her why she had this and she said it was an assignment.”
Little Kalani knew as soon as she got her homework that the grownups were not gonna be happy, telling WSB-TV, “I saw that and I was like, ‘My mom would be mad.’”
Some may say this 6th grader exercised better judgment than her teacher. But on the other hand, Mrs. Kodak sounds like a fuckin’ LIT TEACHER.
The DeKalb Country superintendent wrote in a statement:
“The assignment was inappropriate, unacceptable and contrary to our standards. The employee responsible has been removed from the classroom and will be held accountable for such poor judgment. While we encourage teacher creativity, the expectation is that the instruction is always standards-based and age appropriate.”
Yeah, fair enough. Seems like a case of a teacher trying to inspire kids to be creative and severely missing the mark.
Maybe next time just go with a slightly more neutral artist and not fuckin’ Kodak Black…
