Theravada speaks on the underground NY hip hop scene

A few months back, we got the opportunity to chop it up with Theravada on the cusp of releasing his most recent project, “Xenophon.”

The album, Xenophon, symbolizes introspection and showcases tremendous content and perspective.

“I pray my friends don’t fade into obscurity.

The sun rise – better make your bread lift.

Don’t try to front like I’m not telepathic.”

Theravada on Xenophon

Theravada’s Xenophon

Kulture Hub: So Xenophon is the name of your most recent album and you dropped it on your birthday?

Theravada: I dropped it on my name day. In Greek tradition, most names are tied to a saint and there is a specific day when these saints are observed. This is often celebrated like a birthday in American culture.

The name day is the day that relatives will reach out to you and see how you’re doing, send you gifts, etc.

Theravada offers some game within the health realm

KH: “Everything seems cool until you giving into simply what’s tempting.” (Xenophon’s lyric)

How do you overcome temptations and what might be some good universal coping mechanisms for aspiring artists or people in general?

THRVD: Keep a healthy routine especially now with all of the bureaucratic disaster. Wake up early and make tea. Eat fruit every day. Give yourself the small victories so that the bigger victories don’t feel so big anymore and the larger goals don’t feel so large anymore.

When I arrange my projects – I literally treat them like a mixtape – like I play all the songs through and cut them up – start them in the middle and bring them back in real time.

Discussing discography with Theravada

KH: Labels are boring to me but I know you have Xen Griffey, Xenny Hardaway and Xennis Rodman. Would you consider those as a mixtape trilogy and Xenophon your debut album or what? Because I know you have dropped “State of the Art” and other projects as well.

THRVD: Yes. You are seeing that through and I appreciate that. Xen Griffey, Xenny Hardaway, Xennis Rodman that was definitely the mixtape run… Xen Griffey is very much so a mixtape by industry standards – and even the way that I arranged it. When I arrange my projects – I literally treat them like a mixtape – like I play all the songs through and cut them up – start them in the middle and bring them back in real-time.

THRVD: State of the Art felt like it required a bit more prowess involved during the recording and arrangement process. I didn’t feel like as much of a novice as I did with Xen Griffey.

Xenny Hardaway is its own beast because I recorded that in 2 days with mostly Rob Chambers beats. Xennis Rodman is an amalgamation of some old songs – mostly new songs recorded over a 9 month period.

Know yourself & apply your worth

KH: You’re an artist that strikes me as someone who really nurtures their tracks and production as you decide when to stash it and when to hatch it. Would you say it’s better to become a producer before you become a recording artist and what’s the importance of keeping music in the vault?

THRVD: Before even making that distinction of what should be done first, I think it is a matter of doing what you want to do. I started as a DJ for my rapper friends. That knack to be able to manipulate audio in real-time and even keep a party going or engage a crowd at a show – I began to realize I can engage a crowd in real-time even if I am just behind the turntables.

xenophon

KH: What is it like being firmly within the throws of the underground NY hip-hop scene?

THRVD: The new underground to me means functioning at the same standard as a label, or how we may believe a label should or could have operated. I try to treat 2000 Entertainment like I don’t run it. Like I have to keep up with what 2000 expects from me as the CEO, Producer, Engineer, shipping & handling and doing all these things. I treat it like I might get fired if I’m not clocking in at the right time.

Theravada’s Xenophon is intimately personal

Nothing happens randomly. Occurrences are a byproduct of fate, faith and work ethic. Theravada knows the places he prefers and chooses to work with those that exhibit professionalism and flavor. Hence, he serves as a pivotal component within underground New York hip-hop spheres.

Theravada’s latest self-titled offering, Xenophon, could be the most cohesive project that he has released to date.

The album is called Xenophon which is not some “self-dubbed nickname,” but rather the artist’s actual name anointed at birth.

We appreciate Theravada’s time speaking with us, and implore you all to consume his art here.

Listening to music while studying

Why Music Helps Enhance Learning? (For Students in Any Classroom)

Can music enhance the way students are learning in the classroom?

If you ask college students to sing their favorite song when they were in grade 1, most of them will remember every song’s detail. They will also tell the lessons they were learning from the song.

Many researchers have studied the effect of music on learning and several reports say music can be used in the classroom to help enhance learning.

Other reports suggest that students should be encouraged to listen to their favorite music during study time. The benefits of music in learning cannot be exhausted.

Music is motivating

Motivation in learning helps build hope in the minds of the students. They encourage themselves to stay on in a lesson or in a study room because they yearn for something better and greater.

A student may feel like they want to give up or potstone a study for another day. When an assignment is complex, they might feel they don’t have the energy to attempt the assignment. According to research, music motivates students to learn because it creates a sense of reward in their mind.

Music creates a better learning environment

It is difficult to study when the student is stressed. Stress can come from different angles, either from school or home. The student could be lacking some basic learning needs from home or face a harsh school environment.

When they listen to their favorite hit during study, the student feels emotionally supported. They tend to forget the harsh environment in school or the learning needs they have. Music helps them create a better learning environment.

Music helps reduce stress

When school learning activities are compact, the students get pushed and stretched to their limits. Their productivity might decrease when they have too much work to do in terms of lessons, assignments and field activities.

Research reveals that music helps process negative emotions and replace them with positive emotions.

If a student is overwhelmed by schoolwork, they can sit and relax for a few minutes while listening to their favorite music. It will help reduce stress and they can continue working on their assignments again.

Essay writing help

Learning under instructors helps a student understand information better. He or she observes the teacher solve a problem and gain knowledge on how to solve it. To help the students learn better, the teacher gives them assignments and sets a deadline.

The structure of academic writing can sometimes be confusing to the student. However, if the student seeks essay writing help from professional writers, they save time. The writer must be able to complete the assignment in time.

Premium writing service, Edubirdie will complete your essay in a quick time and ensure excellent quality. This is the reason it’s considered number one among all other services.

Music helps students remember things

A student goes through formal learning for up to 16 years before they graduate with their first degree.

Sixteen years of learning can translate to thousands of information from teachers, parents, society and themselves. It might be difficult to remember much of the information after a few weeks.

Studies have proved that music can help students remember the things they learn. When the main points of a lesson are composed into a song, the student may never forget the points for the rest of their lives.

Students can focus better

A recent study on how music can help improve focus found that music can help the mind grab and process information better. According to the study, the human brain receives information and breaks it down into segments that the person can understand.

The study found that music can help the brain discern situations and predict the result. A student can process a lesson better and analyze the result when listening to music boosts their focus.

Essay writing assistance when you need

Education needs are different and they present themselves at different times. Some require urgent attention, while others need time to address them. The student must seek help from people who will be available to offer support anytime they need it.

Some college essays come with short notices and demand quick attention. The student could be facing challenges with their study time forcing them to seek essay writing assistance from essay writers.

They must be trustworthy and deliver quality papers. Most students trust this essay writing service by Writix as it’s known for its high-level quality and quick deliveries. The work includes thesis, dissertations, essays and term papers.

Music helps build confidence

Every human being longs to succeed in all that they do. The little child in grade one longs to succeed in learning numbers, letters and colors. The situation is the same in high school and university. When the students realize they are not succeeding, they can give up in life.

The benefits of music in learning are many. When a student makes a habit of listening to music, they begin enjoying the benefits like better memory, focus and less stress.

All these benefits combined result in better performance in school. The student becomes confident with themselves that they can make in their studies and perform even better.

Music enhances the relationship between teachers and students

A recent study on the student-teacher relationship in schools reported that at least 30 percent of students feel their teachers do not put any effort into making school a great place of learning.

Teachers can improve by being empathetic, social, and humorous, but they can also add music as a catalyst. Playing music in class creates a relaxed environment where students feel free to interact with the teacher.

There have been conflicting discussions on whether music should be incorporated in the classroom.

Some educationists feel that the classroom and school, in general, might be turned into dancing arenas. Studies and research have proved that the benefits outweigh the negative outcomes when it comes to music and enhancing learning for students in the classroom.

4 reasons why a music marketing agency may be exactly what you need

Are you searching for a better way to promote your music online?

You’re not alone – millions of indie artists are trying to tap into the $15 billion recording industry. If you want to stack the odds in your favor, you need to hire a great Music Marketing Agency.

The best music promotion companies use statistical data and organic marketing techniques to help their clients succeed in a competitive industry.

And if you are just getting started, they will work with you to develop a music marketing plan, set goals for your career, and help you achieve tangible results (like getting your music on Spotify playlists).

Here are four reasons why you should hire a music marketing agency:

You Aren’t Having Any Luck On Your Own

Like many indie artists, you may dream of becoming a famous musician. If you aren’t having any luck on your own, a music marketing agency can help. Your agency will have a team of experts that can analyze industry data and create a plan for your career based on your personal needs and professional goals.

You Want To Build A Loyal Fanbase

With millions of competitors, it can be difficult for new artists to stand out from the pack.

A music marketing agency can help you claim your own slice of the market – approximately 68 million people paid for music subscription services in 2015, and live music revenue has grown to more than $10 billion in the United States alone.

You’re Ready To Invest In Your Future

If you want to get results, you’re going to have to invest in the future of your music career. A reputable music marketing agency is committed to producing results for their clients, and will use the money that you give them to connect you with your target audience.

You Want The Perfect Marketing Partner

One of the most difficult things about being an indie artist is that you are in charge of every aspect of your professional career. If you hire a marketing partner to help you grow your fan base, increase your royalties, and get discovered, they will take over a lot of the tasks that can keep you from focusing on your No. 1 priority – creating new music.

Get Your Music On Spotify Playlists, it doesn’t matter whether you’re a new artist or a label executive. Playlist Streams can help you get more Spotify streams with organic marketing.

Holiday Music

Hip hop holiday music that will still slap in 2021

One of the more unique trends circulating in the music industry today is the emergence of hip hop holiday music. Specifically hip hop and R&B artists, but musical talents in general, are recognizing the lucrative opportunities the holiday season presents.

Holiday music is not a new occurrence in hip hop. On the contrary, legendary artists like Run DMC, Snoop Dogg and Death Row Records have all had successful efforts before.

Despite this fact, it seems like the pandemic’s ability to keep us indoors has sparked the inspiration for a resurgence.

Hip hop holiday music in 2020

Chance The Rapper and Jeremih’s Christmas album Merry Christmas Lil Mama dropped earlier this year. Although it came out on Soundcloud in 2017, the artists have officially made the project available on the other streaming platforms.

Although the album is essentially the same project as the original with the exception of a few songs, it could be that the artists plan to carry out the project in the future.

Are U Live

LVRN has banked a lot on its talent in holiday rap music

LVRN (Love Renaissance) collectively dropped a nine-track project of Christmas music.

With songs featuring 6lack, Summer Walker, Shelley fka D.R.A.M, Westside Boogie, and Eli Darby, the album has an array of different sounds that differ from the traditional Christmas album.

Maintaining themes of classics like Feliz Navidad, Santa Baby, and This Christmas, LVRN’s renditions of the holiday classics produced a unique take on music that has been sung for decades.

Santa Baby

Considering the diversely talented roster on LVRN, this project thus opened a window for the label to contribute to a positive musical tradition.

Pornhub joins the hip hop holiday music trend

Following Valentine’s day xxx album, Pornhub has chosen Christmas as its next hip hop holiday album release. The star-studded tracklist features artists like A$AP Ferg, Rubi Rose, Sukihana, and Mila J shows that Pornhub has a presence in music.

The platform has a long-winded history working with the range of artists. From Kanye West and Wacka Flocka to Blac Chyna and Asian Doll, Pornhub will continue to release compilation projects.

Playboi Carti to drop Whole Lotta Red on Christmas Day

There’s is nothing like a Christmas day drop and at this moment each and every Playboi Carti fan is stupid hype/shook.

We can honestly thank Mario Judah for applying the pressure.

As Carti Christmas approaches and we look to Whole Lotta Red to close out 2020, how has other holiday hip hop music kept us inspired?

Christmas rap songs and other holiday music will help us push into 2021

While the release of Christmas albums and music may not be the most anticipated bodies of work during the year, it is a unique way for artists to make light-hearted music with the intentions of happiness behind it.

These hip hop holiday projects have therefore been a good way for artists to express their personalities over classic songs that have been done for years.

As new artists continue to push the boundaries in music, the tradition should make for new classics soon.

What do you think of the hip hop holiday music albums or Christmas rap songs that have been released this year? Do you think this decade will bring new holiday classics?

Who is Sprado? The ‘Magic’ rapper ready to take 2021 by storm

Sprado is seemingly establishing himself as an artist to watch out for.

Having already collaborated with Jeremih on his song, “American Dream,” the Chicago-based musician goes to prove that hard work pays off in the long run.

Subsequently, the talent speaks for itself and has gotten a thumbs up by multi-platinum producer Hitmaka and rapper O.T. Genesis, to name a few.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CDeXezmgmE3/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

At a lyrical standpoint, Sprado makes good use of his bragging rights, shedding light on his accomplishments and the work he put in to get to where he is today.

Additionally, Sprado opens up to fans about what he’s seen and heard, all while thanking the man upstairs for everything. Not to mention, he encourages others to be their most authentic selves and to follow their dreams.

Sprado said during an interview with Hype Off Life

“I want the end of 2020 to be like, ‘We see Sprado. He’s blowing up. He’s doing his thing. The city loves him, and everybody is picking up on him.’ By the time 2021 comes, I want to be a household name, established, and people know who Sprado is.”

https://www.instagram.com/p/B8uUlHLgfk1/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

Sonically, Sprado keeps an array of cadences up his sleeve. Regardless of the soundscape, he’ll go for a melodic approach or throw out some swaggy rhymes.

“I try to let my mind go wherever the beat takes me. Let my mind freely flow on top of the beat I choose.”

Sprado continues with Hype Off Life contributor, Keish Monique.

His musical journey begins as early as 2017. Sprado left a notebook full of lyrics at home, which his father came across.

After further analyzing his bars, Sprado’s father told him that he has the power to be the greatest of all time. It also helped that music became Sprado’s safe haven, following some trying situations in his life.

Rather than being boxed in, the “They Know” rapper aims to use his artistry for positive change. In the span of his career, he’s caught the eyes of XXL, Lyrical Lemonade, Revolt TV, and more.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CCoQ9UfgSmV/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

More recently, Sprado teamed up with 2020 XXL Freshman, NLE Choppa, for his song, “Magic.” Between lyrics, the two rappers wonder if their significant others are ride-or-dies. Elsewhere, both Sprado and NLE Choppa do a humble flex, speaking about their exclusive drip, foreign whips, and ice.

During Sprado’s verse, he uses a soft auto-croon to boast about his excellence while reminiscing about the “days I had nothin’ to lose.” As the song continues, he speaks about those who once doubted him and are suddenly supporters.

Double back when they see me improve/But I never cared ’bout approval/Yeah, yeah (Yeah, yeah) /Ain’t no talkin’, but we ’bout that action/Talkin’ friendship, but we talkin’ faction,” he spits.

Before the infectious chorus makes its way back, Sprado details his resilience to become successful.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CFM-3qPgMRa/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

Matching Sprado’s energy, NLE Choppa goes in about a soulmate that has him “reminiscing ’bout the shit that we had did.” Although he and his lover had a few rough patches in their relationship, NLE Choppa finds himself still captivated by her.

Ayy, are you for me?/ I’m mad when I’m with you, I’m coolin’ without you, so I’m ignoring/Catch you with that nigga, I’ll post at your house and knock the door in,” he raps in a singsong flow.

As the chorus makes way once more, NLE Choppa takes a moment to forewarn shit talkers, saying his chopper is as big as Kevin Hart. Surprisingly, NLE Choppa opts for a softer tone instead of an aggressive one. Usually, NLE Choppa carries a cadence that’s in-your-face rather than cool and collected.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CEKL4aygeN7/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

The ethereal hip-hop offering is led by a flute arpeggio and a booming bassline.

“It was a feel-good vibe when I made “Magic.” I had just dropped my EP, Bases Loaded and was excited, so I just got in the booth and made the song,” says Sprado. “Once my team heard it, we all just got more excited, and they were saying, ‘Oh man, you just dropped a project and you’re following up with this?’ It was just good energy and good vibes in the creative process. With the collaboration, my team and Choppa’s team linked up, we talked about the record, talked about Choppa hopping on the record and it came together.”

The visual for “Magic” is directed by WaterWippinEvan. Using a kaleidoscopic lens and other cool camera effects, “Magic” sees Sprado riding through the city in a drop-top.

Additionally, the music video gets shots of a beautiful woman modeling in a red-tinted room, Sprado showcasing his bars while standing in front of a graffiti wall, and NLE Choppa rapping as he dons a black turtleneck and some bling.

These Travis Scott brand collaborations are worth all your bread

Tell ’em Cactus Jack sent you…

Travis Scott has been a rising star for the past few years now. His recent collab with McDonald’s and the flood of memes that followed have only cemented that.

With the release of his new line of McDonald’s themed Cactus Jack merch, today we’ll look back on his collabs. In such a short span of time, Travis Scott has nabbed some of the most coveted brands one could pair with.

In celebration, let’s give a look.

Been Trill

The first of many Travis Scott brand collaborations this partnership birthed La Flame.

Circa: 2014

Diamond Supply Co.

Holy throwback to those Diamond Supply days. With graphics inspired by the work of Pen & Pixel, this collab is surely one to remember.

Circa: 2016

Bape

This is a collab we saw coming from a year out as the young 22-year-old rapper bodied his shoot for the BATHING APE BLACK series.

His most iconic drop with the brand might still be getting his own Baby Milo T-shirt. Still considered a piece of memorabilia this piece only dropped at ComplexCon.

May we all someday enter heaven as a Baby Milo version of ourselves.

Circa: 2016

Helmut Lang x Travis scott

Starting in 2017 when the rapper was just coming up in the scene, he struck a deal with high end fashion brand Helmut Lang. This would serve as the dawn for bigger collabs to come.

With them, he made a line of jackets and shirts, taking off of their “urban cowboy” motif of previous. Because Scott is from Houston and references Texas often in his work, this was fitting.

Travis Scott x Virgil Abloh

Virgil for Astroworld 24hrs

A post shared by flame (@travisscott) on

Though they’d previously worked together, in 2018 Virgil, a DJ, designed shirts for shows they did together on the Astroworld Tour.

This collab is significant because it debuted the now-iconic Travis Scott action figure wearing Cactus Jack Jordan IVs. The action figure has gone on to be a staple of Travis Scott, making him an icon.

The Astroworld Tour merch is still worn today, and shows no signs of stopping.

Circa: 2018

Nike

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sma0OYpIoJw

This was the collab that cemented his star in my eyes. When you’re able to have your own Jordans, let alone Jordan Is, you’ve truly made it.

His first collaboration with Nike was in 2017, when he designed a pair of Air Force 1s. He stated that he wanted to do something unexpected and new. He did just that with three metal swooshes on each side and patches on top.

Later, his Jordan I line dropped, with the backward Nike swoosh. Michael Jordan would be proud.

Travis Scott Air Jordan
Nike

Debuting his Jordan I lows at the Grammys was a move and a half. When you got people clamoring for the lows then you’ve made a bomb shoe.

Circa: 2017 – Present

Saint Laurent

Travis has been down with the Saint Laurent Clique since 2016.

Dressed to the nines in his video for “Can’t Stay” Travis Scott was the face of Saint Laurent’s Spring/Summer 2019 campaign. That same video would act as a quick fly ad for the fashion house.

Still, the official collaboration came about in December 2018 where the partnership birthed a limited edition vinyl record. With only 500 made, the curated  12-track playist included tracks like Fat Pat’s “25 Lighters” and Toro y Moi’s “So Many Details.”

Circa: 2018

Mitchell & Ness and Bleacher Report

As a longtime sports fan this collaboration between Travis Scott, Mitchell & Ness, and Bleacher Report was a no brainer.

The campaign featured limited edition designs of NBA team jerseys created by icons from all 29 NBA team cities. Each release honored a home team while expressing the signature styles and designs associated with the influential figures.

And to kick things off, La Flame reimagined the original Houston Rockets jersey from the ’70s.

Circa: 2019

Reese’s Puffs

Reese’s Puffs always showed hip-hop some love. This tradition continued when Travis Scott’s action figure got to be on the front of boxes last year.

The action figure holds a Cactus Jack spoon against a desert background with lightning and cactuses springing up behind. The cover really did stay true to his branding.

Originally selling on his online store, they were sold in clear acrylic cases for $50 each. They sold out in half a minute. Later, they hit store shelves, where they were snatched up as soon as they were on.

Circa: 2019

Hot Wheels, Nerf, and Fortnite

Travis has always been a kid at heart. To celebrate his label’s first album release Jack Boys it only made sense that he brought the Cactus Jack BMW M3 E30 to life as a Hot Wheels car.

Pushing the envelope even further would go on to hold a 10-minute long Astronomical performance on Fortnite. And even in a pandemic, Cactus Jack managed to set the bar even higher.

More than 10 million people pulled up.

To make things even spicier… in part to his astronomical event, Travis dropped one hell of a capsule that included t-shirts, hoodies, and action figures.

But most importantly an AR-goosebumps dart blaster made in collaboration with Nerf.

Circa: 2020

Travis Scott x LeBron James’ UNINTERRUPTED

This very special Travis Scott brand collaboration with Lebron James’ UNINTERRUPTED came from a very special place.

Made available for only 72 hours, all proceeds from the official class of 2020 graduation T-shirt were given to charities rebuilding the two superstars’ respective communities: the LeBron James Family Foundation and Feeding Texas.

Talk about tasty streetwear

His most recent collab has everyone talking. With images surfacing online of his action figure sitting on top of the Golden Arches, people were buzzing instantly. What would it be?

It was then announced that McDonald’s would be selling the Travis Scott meal, which consists of a Quarter Pounder with cheese, bacon, and lettuce, medium fries with BBQ sauce, and a medium Sprite. No toy, sadly.

The collab doesn’t end there. As a big fan of McDonald’s, Travis has released a Cactus Jack McDonald’s merch collection on his site. You can get Cactus Jack t-shirts, hats, and an NBA 1992 All-Star Game inspired jersey.

Aside from that, there’s a pillow shaped like a chicken nugget. Beware, its $90 and not really chicken.

Should you be bumping music while you’re studying?

Each person studies differently at his or her own pace. Some listen to music while studying and others don’t.

Others need to spend hours to gain an understanding of certain topics. The same goes with music. Those who can’t concentrate and are distracted by any noise will be against listening to music, whereas some people just can’t be productive without it.

If you look for a way to make your homework easier and hope that music can be your solution, read this article to understand its effects. We understand that students have a lot of difficulties with homework. Before you gain insight into the major topic of the article, you must remember that asking for help is your best solution in tough times.

The best way for students to get help is to use academic writing services, for example, Speedy Paper. Get acquainted with the speedypaper review to find out how to get assistance from professionals.

Here are the main effects of listening to music when studying.

Music boosts your mood

Those people who have no problems with the concentration of attention and can easily listen to their favorite melodies while studying can feel happier. It’s a widely known effect of music. When you feel bad, you may turn on your favorite song to clear your mind from negative thoughts and raise your spirits.

If you start doing something when you feel exhausted and lack the desire to work, you’ll hardly succeed. It works with homework. Listen to your favorite songs for some time before you start studying or continue listening even when doing some assignments and be sure that they’ll seem a lot easier for you.

Listening to music alleviates stress

College and university students are loaded with enormous amounts of paperwork and other responsibilities that must be performed are prone to anxiety and stress. If you feel that you’re a nervous wreck, you must care for your health.

College assignments aren’t the most important things in your life; the same cannot be said about stress. That’s why the best decision is to ask for help writing college papers. Scientists also advise people to listen to music to reduce stress and find the desire to continue to work.

Music improves visualization

Listening to calm and quiet melodies while reading something helps your mind imagine some concepts. Of course, if you turn on some hard rock tunes, you’ll achieve the adverse effect. Scientists related this impact of music to Mozart’s effect, although it hasn’t been proven that listening to classical music makes people smarter.

Student risks to dive into the reflection

If you listen to music while studying and start thinking about something besides your studying, you may not even notice when you’ve lost the focus. It’s the main argument of those people who are against listening to music. Besides your risk of getting distracted, you risk wasting a lot of time, and that’s an unaffordable luxury for the students who always lack the time.

The quality of retaining the information suffers

Even though people state that music improves memorization, the reality greatly differs from it. If you’re preparing for a test and listen to music, you’ll be able to recall this information and use it only if you will listen to those songs during your tests. Studying aims to remember information and successfully use it, but music will prevent you from achieving this aim.

So, it’s impossible to say clearly whether it’s worth listening to music while studying or not; it depends on the individual. If you spend a lot of time doing the homework and some disciplines, such as accounting, are too complicated, consider using accounting homework solver and get rid of the problems.

Meet Jean-Paul Builes: Frontman for Reposado the TequilaFunk Band

Jean-Paul Builes is the frontman and lead vocalist for the band Reposado. The band takes sounds from the Latin afro and Carribbean heritage and authentic American Jazz to create their own genre: Tequila Funk.

Reposado’s latest release “Poquito” debuts here on Kulture Hub. We’re hype for the release as their last track “Water for the Soul” was hot.

I got a chance to talk to JP about his spiritual and artistic journey from photography to music and how it all fell into place.

The Beginning of Discovery

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Jean-Paul Builes (@livecreatedie) on

Jean-Paul went back in time and told me the story of how it all began. He begins with his high school days. “In the very beginning, I guess it started with buying the best camera phone so I could make my MySpace look legit.”

With his Nokia N95, he understood the importance of a social media presence even back then. Looking back he recognizes his artistic nature. “I never thought that I was gonna be a photographer.[…] I never even thought I was an artist.”

After high school, JP faced the question of what he would do professionally. The answer eluded him despite his interest in style and overall natural ability for photography and editing.

“Nothing really sat well. I was really depressed. I was smoking too much weed. I was soul searching, but I was really anxious and super uncertain of everything”

One day while he was taking a photo of someone with his cellphone and directing and modifying settings to get the right shot a stranger noticed.

That stranger pointed out that JP should look into making that his career.“For some reason, that right there, brought me back to when I was three-years-old and my mother telling me she wanted to be an artist but there was no money in it.”

This recollection had a huge impact on the way Jean-Paul viewed himself. Being an artist was never really an option because he internalized his mother’s lost dreams.

“That idea blocked my whole life, even though I was already an artist my whole life.”

Making a Game Plan

After realizing that the first obstacle in his journey into the career of an artist was himself and his mindset, Jean-Paul decided to commit to figuring out what kind of artist he wanted to be. College was one of the options and JP explored to find his artistic focus.

He took every class available from painting to design to music. With this new hunger and hyper-awareness of art being everywhere, JP was primed to notice all the unseen opportunities around him.

While in NYC he was at a club where he saw a photographer with a huge camera and having been into film at the time he noticed that the photographer was missing out on great shots that JP could clearly see.

“I thought, ‘Oh hell, no!’ He’s whack. I don’t know why I’m saying this or I feel this way, but it made me feel like, all I need is a camera, a real camera and I could get gigs.”

JP knew his strengths socially as an outgoing and extroverted person during gatherings and parties. He knew that he could navigate the gig photography world well. But the next obstacle was to get that good camera.

“I stressed hard, I couldn’t get any sleep because my money was just not enough to get that camera. Just $100 off”

Divine Intervention Through Friendship

But luck would strike. JP got a call from a friend he hadn’t spoken to in a year. That friend told him that she had an extra camera and offered to lend it to him for a while. This all occurred within the week that JP decided to take up photography.

“It was so divine. It was unreal.”

Equipped with his new camera and some friends, JP went around taking photos of everything that caught his eye. When comparing photos with his friend, an actor with a photography degree, his friend recognized JP’s talent immediately.

That friend went on to recommend JP as a photographer to a woman he worked for. Because he didn’t have a portfolio ready yet, the woman gave him a task. He was to take photos of iconic NYC locations that only a New Yorker would recognize to prove his talent.

She hired him right after. He had a steady gig once or twice a month. Then she hired JP for her five businesses. For about two years, JP built his photography career.

“I just wanted to shoot. I found something that I can do being an artist and I’m getting paid.”

But his career as an artist would not stay there. There were other callings that JP would soon discover.

The Universe Provides

After the rush of making it as a photographer ended, at 21, JP felt that there was more for him to do.

“I felt like I had to prove myself as a man”

Films like The Doors and Into the Wild inspired JP to go on a self-seeking journey. He quit his pro-photography job and left his romantic troubles behind.

“I said fuck it, I’m going to San Diego.”

He bought a one-way ticket, packed a bag, and brought his camera. His lack of planning would later put a damper on the start of the experience. “I went to San Diego, showed up at the beach, looked around. I made it. And I realized I do not want to sleep on this beach.”

His fears of misfortune were cleared up pretty quickly, his original mindset paying off.  “It made no sense but I trusted my gut and I went away from this system that doesn’t really exist. It’s just an idea that everybody is doing so I decided to do my own. ”

He found a place to stay almost immediately after arriving. A fan of his art and photography offered him a room.

“I went there open arms, freefalling, not knowing where I was going to fall. And life just made room for me.”

Road Trips for the Soul

Shortly after another friend who just came back from the military asked him to take a cross country road trip back to New York. Even though he’d just arrived, the vet convinced him and they set out on his first road trip.

This sparked the rush JP was looking for and going on road trips became a drug. After returning from his road trips, JP would show his father his photographs. His father was for the first time, deeply intrigued by the vastness of other places.

“I took phenomenal photos of the country and I had a ton of stories.”

JP noticed that his father “did what he was supposed to do his whole life” but that his need for discovery was hereditary.

JP began to plant seeds in his father’s mind, convincing him to get an RV, work from home and take a road trip with him. “We were living on the road and we almost killed each other.”

Seattle City Living

Originally JP and his father planned to be on the road for two years, but they only made it to eight months. JP tired of being in the middle of nowhere, craved a city environment. So he posted up in Seattle.

“It was fresh. It was weird and it was open.”

His love for music resurfaced. He remembered loving jamming with friends while growing up in NYC.  JP decided to use his work as a photographer to meet musicians.

After a living situation fell through due to the homeowners’ rejection of his Pitbull, JP found himself homeless without any ongoing jobs.

JP expressed that he’s thankful for this turn of events because he felt that until now he had been spoiled, without fear and without a sense of worry.

At the time, however, JP was at his lowest. He felt like a failure and began to have suicidal thoughts. Those thoughts were short-lived as he picked up his guitar at the back of his car and freestyled a song talking to what he calls his real self, his higher self.

“Once your options are none, all of a sudden if you flip your mindset, you have all the options now. You’re not tied to anything.”

He decided to get a job he didn’t like because he didn’t want to be that lower-self anymore. A month later he saved enough to get a place with roommates.

Music is the Answer

The first night he pulled out his guitar and everyone in the place gathered and sang and drank. One of his roommates, a rapper, invited JP to his show. At the afterparty, he felt good for the first time in a long time and treated it as a celebration for his achievements.

The party had a live grunge band, who later left the setup, and JP walked up, picked up the mic, and asked the bass player and the drummer to drop something.

“I closed my eyes, didn’t open them, and I just let my heart out completely.”

JP doesn’t remember what he said but remembers the crowd going silent, and him creating a hook that the crowd learned quickly. The experience was so powerful that it rebooted the party and spurred others to start freestyling. JP decided that this was the feeling he would chase from now on.

“I made a decision that I will never pass up an opportunity to get on the microphone”

For a few months, the music scene was ripe and JP was full of energy. As winter rolled around everything went cold too.

Things Pick Up Again

During his photography work, JP met Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio a soul-jazz group. He discovered them at a bar playing and knew that they were good despite the empty place. He came to hear them play every Tuesday. Later they would be on Billboard and are now touring the world.

“They changed my life, and I’m sure I changed theirs.”

JP took their photos and created the groups’ first album cover, Close, But No Cigar.

He had asked the trio if he could jam with them sometime and freestyled well enough for them to agree. But at the session, his spirits were down, he was feeling depressed and it showed. He bombed.“It was so bad, and these are my idols.”

That’s when he realized that he couldn’t rely on freestyle, JP needed to hone his art.

“You need to prepare yourself so that even your bad moments are really good.”

Reposado is Born

While at the afterparty for his roommate’s show, one of the attendees invited him to another party, an after-after party. There he met Torin Frost, a fellow photographer and local rapper who excels at freestyle. JP’s musical chops impressed Frost, and JP knew he’d be working with him one way or another.

Later Frost and JP would be joined by JP’s friend, a drummer from NYC and they’d jam together. They’d end up drinking a lot of Reposado tequila and adopted the name focusing on its real meaning, ‘rested.’

“I also like where it stands in Tequila, where it’s in between too young and too mature.”

The name started catching on with JP as the band’s frontman and leader. JP decided it would be best to play where he lived and slowly take over that part of Seattle.

“I like to play where I live and get to know my community.”

They played on the street, in front of stores and later in stores and jump-started a music scene in Columbus City. Reposado wouldn’t just play for others, they would encourage others to come to join and jam with them. The music scene in Columbus City still carries on today.

Rested and Ready for the Future

As Reposado has gained and lost members, it’s grown to an eight-piece band including a three-piece brass section. JP met many of the players while playing basketball.

Builes still leads on vocals and his journey since the creation of the band has evolved. The band is willing to trust and follow his vision and have spent time in Puerto Rico for a tour, JP’s first-ever tour. There JP recognized that this is what he wants to be doing, touring the world.

Tune In Tomorrow To See The First Episode of #RedBullTheCut, Hosted By Me Sneak Peak Here 🤐 @RedBullMusic

A post shared by OG Parker (@ogxparker) on

The Cut pairs nine songwriters with nine producers and the pair (who have only just met) are given 10 hours to come up with an original track.

Voted for by each other, three teams will advance to the final, and compete for a chance to win a publishing deal with Red Bull Songs and receive studio time.

The series consists of four 30-minute episodes, and by the end of the series shown exclusively on Red Bull TV, one pair will be crowned champions.

The dynamic between a producer and songwriter is a special one. Often times the intimate relationship and personal understanding between the two are what yield the greatest output. Thus, giving us some of the hottest tracks in memory.

So, what will it be like when the two don’t know each other, and the clock is continuously ticking while the pair need to come up with something they both feel comfortable and happy with? Grab your popcorn and pull out your headphones; this is going to be interesting.

Pete & Bas

Who are Pete & Bas? Meet the old head grime-duo dishing out fire

“Old people aren’t in tune with young people. Perhaps, we are.” – Bas

You don’t often find two old head rappers teeming with drip and flow. It’s rare we find “the washed” engaging with new-age rap culture at all for that matter.

But just like with anything in this world, there are exceptions, and sometimes these exceptions break the mold. The rap group, Pete & Bas, is a revelation to the music industry.

“Back then I had dents in the Peugeot. Now I’ve got chains on my chest. Gold, one on each finger. Brand new Range in the shed,” rap Pete and Bas, two old lads from South London.

In an interview with Noisey, Pete explains how he met Bas in a shop, they became friends, and have been friends ever since.

Pete’s raspy, guttural sound and Bas’ deep voice produce great tones, especially when rapping together. They truly sound and look, like they could be two London drug lords.

Noisey asked the pair how they got into rapping. Pete explained how his granddaughter loves rap and would play it every time she was in the car with him.

“At first I was turning it off and returning it all. But then I found myself listening to it more and more…” Pete explained.

“The more you listen to it, the more you get into it,” Bas added.

The two old chaps use contemporary slang and flows that would lead you to believe they’ve listened to rap for decades and decades.

Pete & Bas have amassed a following that makes them one of the UK’s hottest new rap groups. Their newest song, “Windowframe Cypher,” features other elderly lads new to the rap scene.

We’re not ageist over here, but the plethora of old folks in this song shows that Pete & Bas are certainly leaning into their roles as the old rappers breaking barriers.

This knowledge begs the question: are old heads winning? Because from this perspective they’re looking to take over the rap game.
