Netflix is making interactive shows for adults where you decide what happens

Netflix is about to become more addicting as the streaming service is looking to add more interactive storytelling shows to its platform.

According to a Bloomberg report, Netflix is producing a choose-your-own-adventure show for adults.

Netflix has already released interactive storytelling kids’ shows Puss in Book: Trapped in an Epic Tale and Buddy Thunderstruck: The Maybe Pile. The shows were an attempt to adapt to the development of interactivity and children’s programming.

In a report from The Verge, Carla Engelbrecht Fisher, Netflix’s director of product innovation and the leading force behind the interactive storytelling experiments said,

“Kids are already talking to the screen. They’re touching every screen. They think everything is interactive.”

This all sounds very lit, but while you are Netflix and chilling do you want to be bothered with pop-ups asking which way you want the story to go? Could be lame.

Plus, without real data to prove that the interactive kids’ shows actually worked this could end up being wack AF for adults.

Have you ever heard of the movie Late Shift? It was an interactive flick released in 2016. The movie allowed viewers to make the decisions on behalf of the protagonist via their smartphones and based on majority votes while the film keeps running seamlessly.

Still, with Late Shift‘s success, adult interactive movies have still fallen short within popular culture.

Regardless, Netflix’s Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos is convinced that experimenting with interactive TV shows for adults might show promising results.

So much so that Netflix is expected to spend $7 billion and $8 billion on programming in 2018. Now that’s a plot twist.

Netflix still hasn’t released a date for the interactive adult show but once it does drop subscribers will only be able to control their favorite characters fate on certain platforms like smart TVs, Roku devices, and iOS devices.
