Legal weed is coming to New Jersey thanks to their new woke governor

Phil Murphy’s election as Governor of New Jersey earlier this week has cannabis advocates in the state very excited for the future.

Murphy ran on a platform of full legalization and has shown no signs of shying away from his declaration.

NJ.com reported Murphy’s intentions to legalize marijuana for New Jersey citizens 21 and older,

“Throughout the campaign, Murphy has embraced the idea of making marijuana available for recreational use for people 21 and older. Early on, he made his support well-known that he would sign a legalization bill when it arrived on his desk.”

State Senator Nicholas Scutari, a Democrat from Union and sponsor of a recreational cannabis bill, said Phil Murphy’s win is a big moment for legal weed. Scutari told NJ.com:

“The election of Phil Murphy gets us a giant step closer. Without him, I don’t know where we would be. He has a 100 percent commitment to it.”

New Jersey Senate President Stephen Sweeney (D-Gloucester) was part of a group of Jersey lawmakers, led by Scutari, that took a trip to Colorado last year to study the state of legal weed.

After seeing the legitimacy of the cannabis industry in Colorado, Sweeney said he was eager to bring that to The Garden State. Sweeney told NJ.com last year that he wants to get legislation on the new governor’s desk within 100 days in office,

“This is a game changer for the state. I’m committed to it. We are going to have a new governor in January 2018. As soon as the governor gets situated we are all here and we intend to move quickly on it.”

This was before Murphy was elected. Now that New Jersey officially has a weed-friendly governor, full-scale recreational legalization may soon be a reality by the summer.

Though the most exciting part of all of this is that Chris Christie, possibly the worst politician in the country, will be leaving office on January 16th.

Smoke one to that!
