Learn and turn up: Are ‘traptorials’ the next big make-up trend?
A new wave has hit social media makeup tutorials, “traptorials” are taking over.
Rather than a regular tutorial, “traptorials,” created by beauty blogger Chelsie Worthy (@wvrthy) started creating makeup clips with a purpose in mind: to stray away from the typical makeup tutorials that are found all over Instagram and other social media.

She tells Popsugar:
“The regular Instagram videos seem so generic. I wanted to steer as far away from that as possible, so I always include movement in my tutorials.”
Chelsea’s reason for her own twist in such an identical industry is beyond makeup looks. She wanted to be a different kind of beauty influencer, the kind that sends a message along with every video tutorial and looks created.
Chelsea started her involvement in shifting beauty industry creativity when she first founded her company, “Worthy,” and created a super pigmented line of highlighters that were better fit for women of color.
“The beauty industry doesn’t want creators who have their own minds, creative ideas, or edge. I wanted to show girls that you don’t have to conform to a standard of beauty when you can easily create your own.”
While using trap music, she was able to do just that. Trap isn’t something you normally find in a beauty tutorial, which is normally accompanied with soft, billowy guitar string solos.
“You can be unapologetically you and still considered beautiful. That doesn’t take away from our beauty or mean we don’t deserve recognition. That’s why I created traptorials, to represent girls like me who are talented but don’t fit the status quo.”
By using clips of makeup, emojis, dancing, and having genuine fucking fun while she does her makeup, Chelsea has ignited a movement, by simply being herself.
It’s important to break away from the status quo when working with such a focused industry. It’s easy to slip into the typical mindset of a beauty vlogger.
Chelsea has used songs from rappers 21 Savage, Metro Boomin, Offset, Future and many more. It’s definitely exciting to see how far your tutorials and Worthy will go.
Keep slaying, sis!
