Jim Carrey wants you to delete your Facebook page for their hotboy involvement with Russia

2018 headlines are the wildest game of madlibs.

This time, comedian Jim Carrey has come out against Facebook, urging users and investors to get rid of the social media platform.

In a statement to CNBC, the Ace Ventura star emphasized the need for “activist investors” and “capitalism with a conscience.”

“We must encourage more oversight by the owners of these social media platforms. This easy access has to be more responsibly handled. What we need now are activist investors to send a message that responsible oversight is needed. What the world needs now is capitalism with a conscience.”

Carrey’s beef stems from the controversy over the 2016 election in which Russians were able to reach millions of Americans through Facebook and possibly sway the result of the election.

The comedian went on to talk about how technology and social media have “created cyber-bridges” and bad people are able to cross them.

“For a long time America enjoyed a geographical advantage in the world with oceans on both sides to protect it. Now, social media has created cyber-bridges over which those who do not have our best interest in mind can cross and we are allowing it. No wall is going to protect us from that.”

This is a lot.

The presence and stain of Russian-backed ads and posts during the 2016 election is obviously incredibly fucked up and disturbing, but I’m skeptical that Carrey’s mission can gain traction.

Facebook has such a stranglehold over our extremely limited and frail brains. I think it’ll take something drastic for more Americans to get rid of Facebook. But Carrey is right that we need activist investors and capitalism with a consciousness. Money talks.

I will now file this story and post it on my Facebook.
