Flying Lotus reveals premier date for brazy debut film ‘Kuso’

Music producer Steve Ellison, aka Flying Lotus, can now add another skill to his long list of talents. After receiving mixed reviews this year at the Sundance Film Festival, Flying Lotus’ Sundance thriller Kuso is set to premiere July 21.

Flying Lotus is a stupid hype director

Fresh out the gate, Kuso, did not receive the best reviews when it made its world debut at the Sundance Film Festival. Critics claimed there were mass walkouts at the Midnight showing. Back in January technology website, The Verge, called Kuso, “the grossest movie ever made.”

Verge reviewer Christ Plante wrote:

“Some folks stuck around after a woman chewed on concrete until her teeth disintegrated, but still peaced out when an alien creature force-yanked a fetus from another woman’s womb (accompanied by a Mortal Kombat sound clip: ‘Get over here!’), then smoked the tiny corpse.”

How you gonna do my mans dirty like that?

According to FLYLO the critics were exaggerating just a little bit…

It was at the press screening where Flying Lotus saw most of the walkouts where he almost decided to distribute the film himself

At risk of distributing himself and with all the mixed reviews, the homie FLYLO was able to snatch a deal with AMC’s, Shudder, an over-the-top subscription video on demand service featuring horror films.

He caught the attention of Shudder’s GM, Linda Pan, who said,

“’Kuso’ pushes the boundaries of filmmaking and we’re delighted to be working with Steve on this highly unique film, as Shudder continues it’s commitment to bringing new and innovative programming to its community.”

Respect to Shudder, I would’ve been so tight if the world would never got to see this film

Using music, special effects, and animation Kuso depicts an apocalyptic earthquake-shaken LA. The collection of semi-connected short films chronicles the lives of the mutated women, men, and children that were affected by the catastrophic event.

The film also hints at some interesting commentary about Los Angeles, racism, and the dark history of America.

Listen, I’m looking forward to this premier I don’t care how gross it is. The soundtrack selection for this film is equally wild. Expect to hear new music from FLYLO, Aphex Twin, Thundercat, Busdriver, The Buttress, and much more.

Oh, did I mention Ellison casted George Clinton to play a doctor with a cockroach up his butt? Viewers will also get to see Hannibal Buress and Anders Holm )Anders in ‘Workaholics’).
