Elderly couple caught with 60 pounds of weed says it was ‘Christmas presents’

Earlier this week, 80-year-old Patrick Jiron and his 83-year-old wife, Barbara Jiron, of York, Nebraska were arrested for possession of marijuana.

Doesn’t sound too crazy, right?

The married couple was driving around with 60 pounds of the loud, according to the York News Times.

Lieutenant Paul Vrbka, who initially stopped the couple’s pick up truck, said that they had noticed the Toyota Tacoma driving “over the center lane and failing to signal.”

Upon pulling them over, the stench of green was so strong that the po-po brought along the county canine unit to search the vehicle. Once they arrived, they found their dirty holiday secret in the back of the truck: Over $336,000 worth of weed, packed in bags, one cheddar cheese ball container, according to VICE.

The couple claimed that the weed was not for them, and that they were going to give it all away as gifts.

“They said the marijuana was for Christmas presents,” said Lt. Vrbka.

Some Christmas gift! I wish my grandparents were down to gift me some green. I’m going to consider myself lucky this year if I get a hug and a kiss on the cheek.

Currently, the couple is in York County Jail and have been hit with a felony charges with the intent to deliver, and no drug tax stamp.

So we don’t know if they were really looking to spread the cheer and give these away as gifts (how many people smoke in their family, anyway? Is this an annual thing? And can I come through next year or what?) or if they are low-key working for the cartel, but I think we all learned a lesson today.

Don’t drive around 60 pounds worth of marijuana in a state where it’s illegal.
