Damn, Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim allegedly kills man walking on freeway

A source has confirmed to Syracuse.com that legendary coach Jim Boeheim struck and killed a man walking outside his vehicle on Interstate 690 around midnight last night.

According to reports, the victim, 51-year-old Jorge Jimenez, got out of his car after an accident on Interstate 690 in Syracuse when Boeheim drove by and struck him. Jimenez was taken to Upstate University Hospital, police said, where he was pronounced dead.

“The occupants then exited the vehicle and proceeded to walk on the highway within close proximity to that vehicle,” Syracuse police said in a 9:51 a.m. news release. “An oncoming vehicle noticed the disabled car and tried avoiding the vehicle, which was in the middle of the road.”

Per standard, police questioned and checked Boeheim’s blood-alcohol content test and found no alcohol in his system, so he was released.

Boeheim, 74, has since been working with authorities and even reported the incident and a superfan who managed to talk to Boeheim said: “he’s devastated.”

Syracuse University athletic director John Wildhack issued a statement Thursday morning regarding the fatal car accident that SU basketball coach Jim Boeheim was involved in late Wednesday night.

“We are saddened by the death of a member of our Central New York community,” Wildhack said. “On behalf of Chancellor Kent Syverud and the entire Syracuse University community, we extend our deepest condolences to all impacted by this tragic accident. Coach Boeheim is in contact with local authorities and cooperating fully. Out of respect for those grieving, there will be no further comment at this time.”

Further reports confirm that weather conditions were bad that night which might have led to the initial crash that left Jimenez in front of his car and ultimately to the tragic accident.

Boeheim is the only coach in Division I men’s basketball, women’s basketball or football who has spent more than 40 years at their alma mater and never coached anywhere else.  He’s been in two Final Fours, in 2013 and 2016, and with over 900 career wins, only trails Duke’s Krzyzewski for most all-time.

To say he’s a staple to that program would be an understatement.
