How Drake literally gave away $1 million in his new ‘God’s Plan’ video

Drake finally released his much anticipated video for “God’s Plan” today.

The OVO founder had been promoting the video over the past month, releasing clips at Miami Senior High School and taking to social media to further tease the video.

The song, beyond its infectious hook and soothing booms, is one of gratitude. He raps about meeting his manager Oliver North and producer 40 — arguably the two greatest contributors to his success — as well as a shoutout to the only woman who has his heart, his mom.

Upon first watching the video, it’s clear that he and Director X wanted to keep that theme, admitting that they gave $996,631.90 of the million dollar video budget away to the Miami community when in he made the video.

As “God’s Plan” plays throughout the entirety of the shoot, you see him give away bundles of cash, award scholarships, and shopping sprees, as well as buy groceries for an entire supermarket unexpectedly. He really did all of that!

All of a sudden the year’s biggest single is a lot more than a bop.

“God’s Plan” was the lead single off Drake’s January 19th two-track EP titled Scary Hours and officially marked his return from his brief vacation away from making music. “God’s Plan” was an early and extremely catchy favorite, going on to break Spotify and Apple Music’s single-day streaming records.

Even if you’re not a fan of Drake and you hate the song, there’s absolutely nothing you can say about the lives he changed in Miami that day.

Drake just shattered the single day streaming record with ‘God’s Plan’

Fuckin’ Drake, man.

After being all extra on the gram for weeks, Drake dropped two new tracks “God’s Plan” and “Diplomatic Immunity” this weekend, packaged under the Scary Hours EP title.

“Diplomatic Immunity” features Drake trying to imitate 2003 Jay-Z boss guy flow over a loungy string instrumental and “God’s Plan” is perfect Instagram caption fodder.

“God’s Plan” has now broken the record for streams in a day, with 4,326,679 streams on Monday (Jan. 22). This is the latest in a long line of Drizzy streaming records.

He was the most streamed artist in back to back years in 2015 and 2016. His Summer Sixteen tour with Future was the highest-grossing hip-hop tour of all-time.

Then he became the first artist to amass 10 billion total streams.

Shit is, fuckin’ ridiculous *Swizz voice*.

So, continuing his extra ass behavior, Drake went on Instagram to compare his own accomplishment to that of LeBron James scoring his 30,000 career point last night.

Congrats King. Samesies.

A post shared by champagnepapi (@champagnepapi) on

Drake then went on LeBron’s Uninterrupted and passed along a message of mutual congratulations to himself and LeBron.

Drizzy said,

“Seems like every time we look up, you’re setting another milestone or breaking another record and I always tell you that you’re one of the most inspirational people in my life. Every time you do something like this I always try to get in the studio and make the song that would go with the moment.”

Then Drake pulled out a bottle of wine, a 1961 Petrus (around $6,000-$25,000 according to Billboard) and proceeded to “accidentally” drop it on the floor, shattering the bottle.

Shoutout to Drizzy for reminding us we’re all some broke boys as he flippantly breaks a bottle of wine that’s more than my whole life.

We already know there’s a Drake project around the corner, we’ll see what records he can take on next.

Drake is being extra again: A very thorough investigation of recent IGs

Drake came through to drop two new tracks “God’s Plan” and “Diplomatic Immunity” this weekend and he’s being all extra again, it’s great.

As we all know, Drizzy does his most effective work when he’s being dramatic, emotional, and a little salty and on these new tracks we get all of that.

On “God’s Plan” he raps:

“She say, ‘Do you love me?’ I tell her, ‘Only partly’
I only love my bed and my momma, I’m sorry”

Drake then backed up that completely ludicrous line with a fire gram post in the wee hours of the morning that stood as a sort of visual accompaniment.

I only love my…

A post shared by champagnepapi (@champagnepapi) on

So “God’s Plan” is plenty extra but the real juice comes from “Diplomatic Immunity”, where Drake is just saying the most.

On “Diplomatic Immunity” we learn that Drake has very serious nicknames for his house and his studio.

“All factual, I call the house ‘the embassy’
The studio ‘the chapel’, I hate to travel”

Poor Drake, gotta travel on those world tours and chill in Dubai and shit. Life is so damn hard sometimes. Especially when you get tagged in Instagram pictures of women trying to expose you:

“Tired of women that may tag me in pictures airin’ my dirty laundry”

Ok, word, fair enough, but then… Drake airs all the dirty laundry:

“2010 was when I lost my halo
2017 I lost a J. Lo
A Rotterdam trip had me on front page though”

At first it’s like, cool, a random reference to a pristine Dutch port city, but a closer inspection of the lyrics (and knowing Drake can’t help himself), reveals that A Rotterdam sounds a lot like the nickname of a certain prominent former baseball player who now dates aforementioned J. Lo.

Drake came in the rap game with a big old emotional chip on his shoulder. His earliest projects, from Comeback Season to Nothing Was The Same, showed an artist struggling with relationships, sudden fame, and the unforgiving music industry.

He’s best when he’s airing grievances, no matter how intensely personal they may be. The reason that his most recent projects, Views and More Life, were less interesting than Take Care et al. is because Drake had grown complacent, but even more worryingly, content.

Drake, like LeBron, has to find some sort of motivation or form of personal grievance, to make his best work. And right now it looks like Aubrey is very much back on his bullshit.

Beyond his tea-spilling, messy-ass bars on his two recent tracks, a glimpse at Drizzy’s Instagram behavior recently shows he’s being extra as ever. Let’s take a look, shall we?

(Note: I’ve graded subsequent posts on a 1-10 extra scale, with 10 being the most extra.)

Drizzy posing extremely seriously in apparent construction site

A post shared by champagnepapi (@champagnepapi) on

Drake, while passing through a building that is being renovated, must take a very chill squat pic for the gram. This is textbook extra-ness, but we’d expect nothing less from October’s Very Own.

7/10 extra points.

Takes pic in machine room, captions it “Machine Room”

Machine Room

A post shared by champagnepapi (@champagnepapi) on

Here, Drake is not only inside a machine room, he also is the machine room. Very impressive use of a double entendre that doesn’t actually make any sense.

Telling Demar I need 52 every night till he retires

A post shared by champagnepapi (@champagnepapi) on

Drake not only has many emotions, but he also likes sports. He’s a very well-rounded person with many interests.

Anyways, here he is telling DeMar Derozan (Drake calls him by his first name, because they’re boys) that he must score 52 points every night for Drake personally. DeMar is trying to get away as quickly as possible.

Drake asks his followers to roast him

Draymond was roasting my outfit…comment what you think he said

A post shared by champagnepapi (@champagnepapi) on

Drake is super cool and chill and friends with everyone, including very important athletes like Draymond Green. Drake also needs to be roasted.

He wants you to roast his little puffy jacket so bad. ROAST HIM.

Drake, wearing LeBron’s high school jersey, shows off Steph Curry and Kevin Durant tattoos

A post shared by champagnepapi (@champagnepapi) on

Drake is not only a fan and friend of the basketball players, he’s also very good at the basketball himself. Here he is on his very own court just balling like a normal guy with his LeBron jersey (his professional photographer just happened to be there).

Also, zoom in on his left arm and it appears that he has Kevin Durant and Steph Curry tattoos. He likes giving props to all the best players!

Very candid sadboy pose in the studio (btw it’s 8 am)

Drake is working very hard in the studio and getting very little sleep. Do you see how much work this dude puts in?

DO YOU SEE THE PAIN HE HAS TO DEAL WITH BECAUSE HE WORKS SO HARD?! You probably wouldn’t get it. Life is hard when you’re on top and you’re up in the stu chillin’ and recording hits and stuff.

This fuckin’ guy. This might be the most extra picture I’ve ever seen in my entire existence. Everything about this is ridiculous. Why you pursing your face like that, Drake?

A fuckin’ million/10 extra points.

Just chillin’, rippin’ some hookah, and sending some risky texts while in the stu

A post shared by champagnepapi (@champagnepapi) on

Drake, despite the fact that he is one of the biggest artists of our generation, is just like you. He wears sweats, smokes hookah because he thinks it’s super chill, and sends those questionable texts while he’s supposed to be working. Very relatable content.

Up in the strip club ayyyy

More appropriate portrait for the gram

Drake is in the strip club but he’s not gonna take an inappropriate picture for the gram.

Instead, he’s gonna document his facial expression while looking at strippers with a wad of $1 bills in his hand. Wholesome shit right there.

Who is PnB Rock? The versatile Philly artist with superstar potential

Cop your tickets to PnB Rock’s ‘Catch These Vibes’ tour here.

So I know you’ve heard “Too Many Years,” or better yet “Selfish” by the lanky light skin that’s seemingly taking over the charts — PnB Rock.

That was a while back, so by now you’ve definitely peeped his “Unforgettable” remix that we can’t get out of our heads or maybe even his second studio album “Catch These Vibes” that just dropped late last month.

All I know is this man is next up — you tell me the last time you heard an artist this versatile with the same finesse as Drake?

Rakim Hasheem Allen, better known as PnB Rock, isn’t just a music genius. He’s a Philly bred fashion icon and future star in the game.

He’s a trendsetter — the reason behind when you hear “Louis X Supreme” your next thought is “that’s limited edition” and why your girl is pressing you to be selfish all the time.

Now Rock’s always had that sound, since day one, but what we don’t know is how he developed it to become the idol that so many are looking up to today.

I swear I haven’t seen another artist rap AND sing with the same quality as Drake, since DRAKE. And these two aren’t even comparable.

Whether it’s a smooth cuffing melody or some authentic trap music, Rock’s got hands in them all. Out of his three songs that made the Billboard charts, how do ALL THREE give you different vibes?

Everyday We Lit” is a soul-hitting track featuring PnB Rock that gives you no extra energy other than to be successful. I want to hear the struggle and I want to hear the outcome, and he makes sure to leave listeners with all this in mind.

There are 10,080 minutes in a week, and besides being lit, I think we all have an idea how he spends ’em to be one of the hottest new artists out.

I don’t think I have to say much about this song besides the fact that ya girl sings along to it weekly. The same way Bey had girls going wild after Lemonade, Rock had girls wishing they had a man that was everything he talked about being in “Selfish.”

What’s unique about PnB Rock is that he genuinely addresses all the obscure, real issues people deal with, especially in his more melodic songs about women. It’s not all Trigga Trey “Slow Motion” and not all Chris Breezy claiming “these hoes ain’t loyal.”

Rock gives a sense of authenticity that’s pretty rare these days in this industry of mumble rap. For starters, you can’t classify him to a single box — he’s way too versatile.

You can’t say much about a rapper/singer that talks about everything from the struggle to the come up, and stardom. Some artists move out the hood and never look back, but it’s different for Rock.

In an interview with Atlantic Records, they put PnB Rock at the center of attention answering some questions about his life. When asked where he got the name “PnB” from, it was simple:

“PnB stands for Pastorius and Baynton, it’s my block in Germantown. Pretty much everybody around my neighborhood got PnB in front of their name.”

He’s not in it for the brand new lifestyle of fame and doesn’t want to leave his day ones, which isn’t just respectable, but admirable. Think about how many A$AP Mobs there are out there, because it’s uncommon. Drake talking about “No New Friends,” but the only Canadians we see him with are the Weeknd and Nav.

According to The Fader, Rock was raised in and out of shelters with his single mother and four siblings.

His father wasn’t around so he looked to his uncle for that foundation, but after his murder, 15-year-old Rakim quickly hit the streets. A couple years later, he was locked up for about 33 months for selling drugs and robbing people, but that was just the beginning.

If you can imagine the scene from “Notorious” when Biggie was locked up, we got to see and understand the time progression and how much effort he really put into songwriting on his dolo. It was the same for Rock, spending his time tirelessly writing tracks inspired by the life he once lived as a kid roaming the rough streets of Philly.

When he got out of jail, he caught a buzz dropping two tapes, but got roped back in by the system around 2014 when he broke probation for leaving his halfway house without permission.

What gave him a lil’ more than “just a buzz” was his video for “My City Needs Something” being aired on MTV while fans rallied, starting the #FreePnBRock trend on social media.

The video depicts Rock with his crew backing him in his Philly territory. He talks about having no help from the cops because they were doing more bad than good, and even shows a kid getting shot playing ball. He put it simply:

“People were dying, people were getting killed by the cops… If I listen to that song, I’ll cry.”

According to Complex, Rock flexes his PUMA partnership, Billboard Hot 100 hits, and a sweet spot on this past XXL Freshman Class.

“We’re going to have our time. PnB is like a movement, a whole movement is going on.”

On top of his latest hot album, “Catch These Vibes,” Rock’s a smooth fashion icon in the making, if not already. In the weeks and days leading up to the release of the album, he posted wild flics wearing the flyest brands.

A post shared by 2017. (@pnbrock) on

But that doesn’t knock him too far base from his roots. He constantly references his home in Philly and leaves everything on the track with “Pressure” off his latest album.

He reminisces about his brother who was killed, his boys who got caught up in the system, his mom, and his daughter Milan, giving listeners a real taste of the real him.

He prides himself on authenticity and that’s what’s lacking in a lot of artists these days.

It gives him a relatability unlike most other people, let alone artists. He puts his heart and soul into his art and that’s why he’s made some Hip Hop and R&B hits that will stay in your playlists for years to come if we’re being honest.

We need more artists like Rock willing to use their voice to educate the youth, by relating to them and showing by example what happens when you put your grind first.

I don’t think we could ask for a better message for the youth right now. Rock knows exactly what this generation goes through which is why they rally behind him.

Lyrics aside, Rock knows how to connect with us on this insanely personal level by being exactly who he is. He manages to essentially succeed at life while dealing with the constant pressures that society puts upon him all while never changing who he is.

Peep Catch These Vibes here:

The way he’s giving love back is even more lit, going city to city covering both coasts, stopping by schools and turning up with college kids.

The tour kicks off this February with up and coming artist Lil’ Baby so you already know I’m hype to see what PnB Rock has in store for us and you definitely should be on the lookout too.

Drake almost beats up a fan after seeing him grope woman in the audience

Drake has always been a lovable dude. Sometimes, you just need to throw on some Drake for your soul (I’m legit listening to “Redemption” as I write this).

Drizzy proved why he’s that guy while performing at a club in Sydney, Australia the other day, stopping the entire concert to threaten some guy who was touching women in the crowd.

“Yo, stop that shit. If you don’t stop touching girls, I will come out there and fuck you up.”

Drake continued to speak to the offender, pointing his finger at the crowd,

“If you don’t stop putting your hands on girls I’m gonna come out there and fuck your ass up.”

The crowd went wild with support as Drake put his mic down and threatened to go out into the crowd personally in order to dispel the tension.

After things had settled down, Drake continued the concert.

It’s very important for men to speak up against sexual harassment and inappropriate behavior now more than ever, with new sexual assault allegations coming out everyday since the Harvey Weinstein allegations first broke.

Of course, Twitter is super supportive of the Toronto native, shouting Drake out for speaking up.

Drake’s call out had people stanning.

While this was one of the most Drake moments ever, it only adds to the legend that he is truly a man for the ladies.

Thank you, Drake, for being there to defend the right side and calling this asshole out.

Drake is about to take over the film industry, which makes perfect sense

Drake, everyone’s favorite turtleneck-wearing rapper, gave an expansive interview to The Hollywood Reporter outlining his plans to move into the TV and film industries.

This seems like a logical step for Drizzy, dude knows how to market himself and surround himself with talented people.

And let’s be honest, Drake never really stopped acting throughout his music career.

Drake Screaming Internally GIF by Saturday Night Live - Find & Share on GIPHY

Drake is partnering with some big, but also aesthetically interesting, production houses in Hollywood. From The Hollywood Reporter:

“The biggest indicator of Drake’s big Hollywood push is whom he is partnering with next: Steve Golin, who runs Anonymous Content (one of Hollywood’s hottest production houses and home of Spotlight and Mr. Robot), for an untitled TV series; film studio A24; and, perhaps most significantly, Apple, which has given him the go-ahead to produce whatever he chooses — at least, according to Jimmy Iovine — just as the cash-flush titan is poised to shake up the content space.”

What has Hollywood yearning to work with Drake? His instant marketability.

He’s one of the top 5 wealthiest acts in hip-hop according to Forbes, he makes $1 million a night from concert tours, his last album set the record for streams in a one day span.

Anonymous Content head Steve Golin told The Hollywood Reporter that they’re trying to tap into Drake’s built in fanbase as well as use the OVO camp’s marketing strategies.

“They’re really geniuses with the marketing of their music. Their social media, the way they do all that, that’s very interesting to us. I’m kind of enamored of the way that they communicate and interact with their fans and their audience.”

Enamoring indeed.

Drake is so well thought of in the entertainment business that Jimmy Iovine says he’s the ideal person to a run a company,

“If I had a company today, I would give it to Drake and Future (Drake’s business partner, not the Atlanta rapper) to run in a minute. They’re incredibly talented guys. Very, very gifted.”

Drake definitely knows what he’s doing when it comes to interacting with his fan base. He’s also identified young talent like The Weeknd, PARTYNEXTDOOR, Majid Jordan, Roy Woods, and to a certain extent Migos, Kodak Black, and Sampha.

Drake Smile GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY

The Drake cosign can be a gift and a curse for artists. While you get the immediate exposure of Drake’s fan base, if an artist signs with OVO, they immediately become a Drake associate. Earl Sweatshirt once tweeted about Drake’s tendency of being a slight vulture after Drake had posted a clip of Kodak Black’s “Skrt”.

https://twitter.com/earlxsweat/status/658313846231207936

Regardless of the discontents of being cosigned by Drake, it’s clear that dude has an eye for talent and he’s benefited by collaborating with artists who have unique styles or points of view.

Take, for instance, his long relationship with right-hand man and executive producer for every Drake album Noah “40” Shebib. Or the placement of The Weeknd throughout 2011’s Take Care. Or linking with Popcaan, Skepta, and Giggs to tap into a larger world audience.

Drake told THR that his approach and taste for music and TV is similar to that in music,

“My taste in television or movies is always kind of similar to my approach to music, which is, I like when people really hit the nail on the head with real human emotions.”

We know you like emotions, Aubrey. But it is legitimately interesting to imagine Drizzy bringing his eye for emerging talent to TV and film.

Drizzy pointed to Sean Baker’s The Florida Project as a recent film that stuck with him,

“That was one of my favorite things I’d seen in a long time, just because it taught me something about a world I would never think of and what it was like to live there. It was just very pure and very human.”

It’s logical that the movie business, which has been floundering in a state of purgatory, churning out massive budget superhero movies or small indie flicks with no distribution with very little in between, would look to Drake for help. Drake is a transcendent talent and figure, that he’d be able to translate his abilities to TV and movies makes sense.

He told THR that he’ll be taking a break from music to make movies and eventually even quit music,

“I’m sure I’ll stop [making music] one day. When it starts to feel like I’m making it up. Hopefully I’ll catch it before I ever get there, right? But right now it feels like we just started, so I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. But I do plan on expanding — to take six months or a year to myself and do some great films. Music’s always there.”

For Drake, music is indeed “always there” but in reality so is acting. Rappers are entertainers, and Drake is the ultimate representation of this.

Drake went from Jimmy on Degrassi to emotional peacoat-wearing rapper to one of the biggest artists in the world to tough guy beefing with Meek Mill to making watered down dancehall with a fake Patois accent.

As a rehabilitated former Drake stan, I haven’t really been fucking with any of Aubrey’s moves since If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late and What A Time To Be Alive (there are rumors that Future still has back pains from carrying Drake throughout that project).

Drake’s music has become a little boring of late, the emotional depth of his earlier work seems absent from anything on ViewsMore Life, and that unfortunate song “Signs”.

Maybe Drake’s musical creativity is a little tapped out. Maybe taking a break from music is precisely what he needs to get back to his best. For all the shots we take at Aubrey, dude is one of the most important creatives of our time.

If he’s currently more inspired by the possibilities of TV and film, we’re excited to see what comes from it.

On his 31st birthday, a brief history of Drake getting curved to the 6 and back

Drake, everyone’s favorite cornball, turned 31 today.

The Toronto rapper truly eschewed in a new sound in hip-hop, bringing a more sensitive and emotional brand of rap that has been taken up by artists in the new generation.

But for all of October’s Very Own’s impact on the rap game, he’s also a figure in pop culture. He’s acted, become the ambassador of sports teams like the Toronto Raptors, and put on new artists like The Weeknd, PARTYNEXTDOOR, Majid Jordan, and dvsn.

Most importantly, Drizzy has literally built a brand off his own thirst. Whether it’s his songs, his tattoos, or his studio decorations, Drake will always unabashedly shoot his shot.

But, as any shooter knows, shooting your shot comes with its discontents. For every shot that splashes, another is curved to smithereens.

So, without further ado, I present a handful of instances of Drizzy getting curved.

Rihanna says ‘oh nah’

Drake has long lusted after RiRi in music videos, in his lyrics, and just generally in his life.

The pair dated at some point, but Drake seems intent on keeping the flame alive no matter what.

At the 2016 VMAs, Rihanna presented Drake with the Vanguard Award. As Drizzy was going up to accept his award, he tried to kiss Rihanna, who expertly diverted him away and made curve history in her slick rejection.

That’s some very impressive curve form.

Skylar Diggins

Another high-profile target of Drake’s desire is WNBA point guard Skylar Diggins.

Back in 2014, Drake posted a bunch of pictures of Diggins to his Instagram (the thirstiest device available), which didn’t go over too well with Diggins’ then boyfriend, and now husband, Daniel Smith.

Smith posted a picture with Diggins and @-ed Drake.

https://www.instagram.com/p/opf4Z_v1Yq/

Then Drake went full thirst and posted a picture wearing Diggins’ jersey.

https://www.instagram.com/p/ppjxHZDQMQ/

It all culminated when Drake read a love poem to Diggins at the 2014 ESPYs and Diggins landed a very friendzoney kiss on Drake’s thirsty headtop.

Drake does seem to love an award show curving.

Jhene Aiko

While hosting SNL back in 2014, Drake brought songstress Jhene Aiko onstage to perform their song “From Time”.

After the show, Drake went right in for a hug with Jhene, but she saw what was going down and immediately turned around in classic curve fashion.

Drake, trying to bring himself back from the curving, went in for the hug from behind anyways and the result was a very weird double hug thing.

Shoutout Drizzy. Shooters shoot.

Meek Mill makes triumphant return to top of rap game with ‘Wins & Losses’

Meek Mill was left for dead.

A series of scandals, personal losses, and legal issues saw the Philly rapper suffer a tough couple years.

In the summer of 2013, Meek Mill’s protege Lil Snupe was gunned down in Winnfield, La. Snupe’s murder was the subject of an emotional song from Meek as he wondered what someone in his position was supposed to do.

“And all he wanted was a coupe, all he wanted was a coupe
So what’s a n**** ‘sposed to do?
Tell ’em put the guns down or tell lil n**** shoot?”

Then Meek was sentenced to three to six months in jail for violating his parole, stemming from an altercation with a police officer when he was 18. Meek was released from prison in December 2014.

Upon his release, Meek began dating superstar Nicki Minaj. Musically, he returned in summer 2015 with Dreams Worth More Than Money, and it all looked rosy for the MMG kid.

Then Meek went a little wild.

Showing that he did not have some of the composure or decorum of most of the music industry’s stars, Meek Mill went on a Twitter rant aimed at Drake over allegations that the OVO leader had ghostwriters scripting his music.

It all started as Meek was pissed off by Drake’s line on “R.I.C.O.” in which Drizzy quipped “the girl of your dreams to me is probably not a challenge.” Initially Meek thought that was a comment about Nicki Minaj, but then someone clued him into the fact that Drake didn’t even write the verse.

https://twitter.com/MeekMill/status/623703382675460096

We won’t post the entire Twitter rant here, but it was truly one of the most entertaining and unhinged moments in recent rap history.

Drake shot back at Meek Mill with multiple diss tracks, allegedly playing “Back to Back” all night in a hotel room right above the room Meek was staying in.

This whole kerfuffle demonstrated Drake’s power within the rap game.

The result of this beef was mostly that people forgot about the fact that Quintin Miller was writing a lot of Drake’s bars and instead focused on Meek Mill taking a series of L’s.

Meek Mill was memed and his Instagram was bombarded with emojis and comments about how Drake dominated him on the diss tracks.

Then earlier this year, Nicki Minaj and Meek ended their relationship, seemingly adding to Meek’s woes.

That’s the context in which Meek Mill released his third studio album, Wins & Losses, last Friday.

The album is a hell of a reaction from Meek Mill, who had seemingly been left behind by the rap game.

Wins & Losses is a conscious return to form for Meek, who came up rapping about the trials and tribulations of his Philly upbringing. On an earlier mixtape this year, Meekend Music, a song “Left Hollywood” symbolizes this return.

Meek spoke to Rolling Stone about the track,

“It’s more like a metaphor. I did move from L.A., but it’s more like a metaphor. I’m catering back towards the streets, like, the culture that helped build me up from day one. The street culture, the street rap.”

Wins & Losses is definitely wrapped up in the street culture and street rap.

But the title of the album itself is Meek owning the up and down nature of his career and public life in recent years as he told Billboard,

“Everybody saying that I’m losing and I lost. I lost my case. I lost my friends to the streets. Those things really meant something to me. I started off in the basement on a karaoke machine. Now I’m in million-dollar studios, making a lot of money being able to feed my family and take them out a crazy environment, still being able to wake up on my own time and do things how I want to do it. That’s my definition of winning. I determine my definition of losing on this album.”

Meek Mill has taken back control of his own persona after controversy, legal issues, and Drake beef.

From the outset of Wins & Losses, the presence of old Meek is undeniable. He’s a master of the intro, pick out any Meek project and that first track is a certifiable banger.

The titular track “Wins & Losses” is no different.

Meek scream-raps in typical fashion about glowing up despite the hate,

“When they all thought we was finished, they was laughing at that
So I went and bought me a Dawn and flipped that hat to the back”

“Connect The Dots” with Yo Gotti and Rick Ross is a vintage, maximal, MMG cocaine-flipping track that harkens back to Meek’s earliest work with the MMG boss.

But Meek also gets pretty thoughtful on Wins & Losses, rapping about the condition of impoverished inner-city America on “Young Black America.”

On the politically-charged track, Meek raps about that run-in with police that has stained his record for years,

“Yeah, I was on that corner, tryna get my coins up
Coppers run up on us and we turn to Jackie Joyner
White man kill a black man, they never report us
Black man kill a white man, they gon’ start a war up
Mama she was tore up, sippin’ on the Absolut”

Billboard asked Meek Mill about getting political and that fateful altercation with police. Meek spoke about how one moment can determine a man’s freedom,

“I was 18 and got beat up by a cop and almost killed by cops. I was just a statistic coming up. The cops… thinking everybody else in the neighborhood is dangerous or everybody in the hood is killers. They caught me and treated me like I was a killer. I don’t think that’s really right. The cop gave me a 100 charges with trying to kill a cop. I don’t want to kill a cop. They basically put me on probation for the rest of my life from that point on when I was 18. I’m 30 now and still on probation. I’ve been to jail three times from that one stint of probation. Any mistake you make, you’ll be put in prison. Your freedom can be took.

Talk your shit Meek.

While returning to his roots and wanting to make music for the street, Meek is also speaking to real social and political issues.

After all he’s been through, my dude is competing with Lana Del Rey for the number 1 album in the country.

Shouts out Meek. We’re all happy to see the Philly kid back doing his thing.

Drake drops new song at Louis Vuitton show in Paris, whole thing is sus

Drake has released his first work since his cross-genre ‘playlist’ More Life back in March.

The new track, “Signs” debuted at Louis Vuitton’s Spring-Summer 2018 collection, playing as dudes in LV walked around looking a uncomfortably hot.

Skip ahead to around the 4 minute mark of the video to hear “Signs.”

The song is just a continuation of Drake’s new beach club aesthetic. Honestly, a fashion show is the perfect location for Drake’s recent catalog, which is a weird thing to say about probably the biggest rapper in the game right now.

Obviously the production, courtesy of Noah “40” Shebib, is incredibly on point and Drake sing-raps with some fake Caribbean inflection, it’s annoyingly catchy in the worst possible way.

Louis Vuitton’s style director took to Instagram yesterday to preview “Signs,” writing that Drake, “will be premiering a brand new song inspired by our #louisvuitton #pfwSS18 collection.”

Then Oliver El-Khatib, Drake’s manager and co-founder of OVO Sound, posted the same artwork and announced that he was curating the fashion show’s music.

The whole deal seems pretty contrived. Dude made a song “inspired” by the Louis Vuitton Spring-Summer collection.

Drake’s whole appeal was his seeming normalcy. He was a rapper/singer that listeners across the globe could fuck with.

At this point he’s like the Amazon of music.

Drake will co-sign an artist just to take their song (where is iLoveMakkonen?) and he’s basically become the biggest vulture in the industry.

Back in October, Earl Sweatshirt took to Twitter criticizing Drake’s vulturedom after the Toronto native posted a video on Instagram set to Kodak Black’s “Skrt.”

Earl hits the nail on the head as far as how Drake uses young artists for personal gain.

As a former Drake stan, all of this behavior is disturbing. I mean, I guess dude can’t really be crying anymore over his ex-girlfriend, he’s the most successful rapper under 40 by a very long shot.

Basically, Drake doesn’t really have much else to talk about this point, so he’s getting his inspiration from Louis Vuitton spring-summer men’s lines.

After a 7 month hiatus, Father returns with wild visuals for ‘Hands’

Father just dropped the dope visuals for his hit single “Hands.” It’s been awhile since we’ve heard from or seen the ATL rapper.

The video dropped four months after he released the song.

Before premiering the song, Father took a seven-month hiatus.

Even though he took a half year break, do not mistake his quietness for fuckery, Father was touring heavily throughout 2016 and 2017. Father also has a list of hit singles and is the the biggest act of alternative Atlanta record label, Awful Records.

Don’t know who Father, aka ‘Father’s Liquor Cabinet,’ is? Let’s peep his long tracklist of poppingness. The song he’s mostly known for “Look at Wrist,” he did with iLoveMakonnen & Key! back in 2014. The song has over 7 million views on YouTube and and close to 12 million plays on SoundCloud.

Father also got a shout out from the Champagne Papi on Instagram.

Father was no one hit wonder either. All of his projects are low-key masterpieces. After dropping Young Hot Ebony, he went on to do two more studio albums – Who’s Gunna Get Fucked First and I’m a Piece of Shit.

Not to mention his EP game is crazy.

Or L1L D1DDY, you are sleeping!

Not bad for an independent artist, huh?

Father dropped out of college to enter the rap industry. Before making the switch, Father attended Georgia State University where he was pursuing a degree in Chemistry and intended to become a Pharmacist.

Even though Father was captivated by the campus lifestyle of Georgia State and the party/club scene in ATL, according to an interview he did with Vibe, schooling laid the groundwork for Awful Records,

It definitely pushed me towards it. Once I got into Chemistry and realized school wasn’t meant for me, I went to Georgia State University in Atlanta. I enjoyed the campus life there more so than the school itself. I met so many [people] there and that was really a starting point for Awful Records. The party/club scene in Atlanta opened the doors with meeting new people. Some people choose to really get involved in it and then the others choose to be a part of it but focus on school. I was just one of the people who loved the Atlanta party vibe, and that’s what took a hold of me.

His unique talents are incomparable.

Last year, Father took to Twitter when he was compared to megastar rapper, Future.

Peep how tight Father got when he was compared to Future

Don’t test Father because he’ll be ready to shoot the hands on sight. Check out his new visuals for his latest rough em up single “Hands.” Warning: content portrays violence and may not be suitable for children under the age of trap god.
