Bruno Mars donates $1 million to Flint water crisis during middle of concert
Pop superstar Bruno Mars announced he would be making a significant donation to the efforts to aid the Flint, Michigan water crisis.
His announcement came at a performance at the Palace at Auburn Hills outside Detroit.
Flint’s water supply was revealed to be contaminated with lead in 2014 and there have been protracted legal and political battles over the crisis ever since.
As for Mars, in the middle of his performance, the Hawaii native took the time to tell the crowd about his initiative in Flint:
“I want to do something special. Tonight I want to donate $1 million dollars to my brothers and sisters in Flint, Michigan. This is why we love what we do… the fact that we can come here under one roof and celebrate together and have all this positive energy flowing. This is the America that I want to live in.”

In a later statement, Mars went on to write further about his vision of America and coming together to ensure that nothing like this happens anywhere in our communities:
“I’m very thankful to the Michigan audience for joining me in supporting this cause. Ongoing challenges remain years later for Flint residents, and it’s important that we don’t forget our brothers and sisters affected by this disaster. As people, especially as Americans, we need to stand together to make sure something like this never happens in any community ever again.”

The proceeds will go towards the Community Foundation of Greater Flint, a public charity focused on relief efforts in Flint.
The CEO of the charity Isaiah M. Oliver released the following statement about Mars’ donation:
“We know Bruno Mars’ $1 million gift will be transformative to the children and families of Flint. He understands the issues faced by Flint citizens, and we are touched by his concern and generosity.”
