Boosie Badazz is behind bars again after arrest with former NFL player

I remember  #FreeBoosie being the hot thing to say in late high school and the majority of college.

At the time, I wasn’t sure what crimes he was charged with or if his sentencing was unjust. I just knew his verse on “Wipe Me Down” was hot and figured no way he belonged behind bars.

However, the popular hip-hop refrain turned hashtag eventually saw its demise when Boosie got out in March of 2014 after three long years.

It was weird. Although people were happy to see him free, it also felt like a phrase was being taken away from hip-hop. Saying ‘Free Lil Boosie’ felt second-nature — not the part of him being in prison, of course, but the solidarity it felt to collectively want him out.

Well today nostalgia returns as TMZ reports that Boosie and former NFL player Antonio Allen have just been busted on drug and gun charges following a traffic stop in Georgia.

According to online court records, Coweta County Jailise holding the former NY Jets defensive back and rapper. Both Allen and Boosie are each facing marijuana and narcotics possession charges. Plus, another charge for possession of a firearm.

On Monday afternoon, police stopped the two after an officer reportedly saw the white Dodge Charger they were driving swerving lanes and nearly sideswiping another vehicle. Authorities say Boosie was driving the car, which reeked of weed.

Police charged Boosie, 36, whose legal name is Torrence Hatch Jr., and Allen, 30, with possession of marijuana, THC, and of a firearm during a felony. Both are being held on a $3,500 bond, according to a Coweta Magistrate Court clerk.

He just celebrated getting off supervised parole and probation after 10-years just last year. Now it’s #FreeBoosie all over again like it’s 2011, although, it must suck, being that.

Drafted by the Jets in 2012, Allen was a safety out of South Carolina. He played four seasons for the Jets, appearing in 50 games.

Boosie’s team hasn’t released a statement. He could be in hot water judging by the strictness of Georgia’s marijuana laws. Bail has not been posted yet. Still, gun laws are laxer, so he may find leniency there.

Boosie makes only the latest of prominent hip-hop names arrested in 2019. Between Blueface, YNW Melly, NBA YoungBoy and 21 Savage, it seems to be a trend that the genre can’t get away from.

Time will tell if the charges will stick or not but till then it’s #FreeBoosie.
