Jim Carrey goes off about how pointless Fashion Week is, spits straight facts

Harper’s Bazaar and Carine Roitfeld threw a banger popping off NYFW on Friday, celebrating ICONS at the Plaza Hotel.

The spectacular event was attended by a constellation of star-studded celebrities. The event partnered with Swavorski, FujiFilm, Stella Artois, Infor, and Laura Mercier to put it on for those who are making waves in their industries.

The sauce was provided by Moet & Chandon and Belvedere. The Weeknd also pulled up to entertain the crowd of icons.

But the most memorable moment from the event was provided by actor Jim Carrey.

He had some choice words for viewers while he was being interviewed by Catt Sadler from E! News on the red carpet.

Carrey was dressed quite fly as he strutted around Sadler staring at her with an intense gaze while ranting about the meaninglessness of the event.

Known for his comedic genius both on and off the set, Carrey went off on a tangent, explaining to viewers, “There’s no meaning to any of this.”

Probably one of the most real things I’ve ever heard a celebrity say. As Carrey continued to make Sadler feel even more awkward he said,

“So I wanted to find the most meaningless thing that I could come to and join and here I am.”

Sadler tries to press him on the fact that the event was a celebration of icons, but Carrey wasn’t having it.

As he gazed into the windows of her soul, he explained how he doesn’t believe in icons,

“Celebrating icons? Boy that is just about the absolute lowest aiming possibility that we could come up with. It’s like icons, do you believe in icons? I don’t believe in personalities, I don’t believe that you exist, but there is a wonderful fragrance in the air.”

Sadler was stressing!

I’m not going to front my mans was buggin’ (A$AP Ferg voice) as in between his explanation he hit us with a light James Brown impression.

But his point proved to be a trippy look into how people see those who are the so called trendsetters of the game. Jim Carrey is now the great cultural critic of our time.

Earth is COOKED: Hurricane Irma, earthquakes, and mass extinction

The end of summer 2017 is proving to be catastrophic. It has many concerned as the recent weather seems like an apocalyptic forecast.

Hurricanes are ripping through the southern coast of America and in the Caribbean, wildfires have been raging on the west coast, and earthquakes are shaking people up in Idaho and Mexico.

It’s like the earth is seeking revenge for Trump ceasing all US participation in the Paris Agreement.

Prayers to your highest power, human unity, and a sociocultural/economic change are all that can save us before it’s too late.

The three hurricanes raging through the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico are proof that global warming is a contributing factor to the monstrous tropical cyclones.

I feel like I saw this same image in The Day After Tomorrow.

Three Hurricanes in the Atlantic There was no shortage of storms brewing across the Atlantic basin in September 2017. On September 6, hurricanes Katia, Irma, and Jose lined up across the basin. The trio is visible in this image, captured that day by the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) on the Suomi NPP satellite. The image is a mosaic, assembled from images acquired throughout the day during several orbits of the satellite. On September 6, Katia had strengthened over the southwestern Gulf of Mexico and was upgraded from tropical storm to hurricane status. The eye of Irma, a raging category 5 storm, passed north of Puerto Rico but still delivered strong winds and rain the Caribbean island. Meanwhile, Jose spun in the central Atlantic Ocean, and was also upgraded that day from a tropical storm to hurricane. The bright strips are reflected sunlight, or “glint,” which show up over ocean areas in the middle of each orbit. https://go.nasa.gov/2xavAn1 #hurricane #hurricanekatia #hurricaneirma #hurricanejose

It’s the warming of the oceans that serve to empower the recent storms with so much strength.

Hurricane Harvey knocked the fuck out of Texas and Louisiana ripping through the “Lone Star” state and the “Big Easy” at a Category 4, causing catastrophic flooding, leaving 30 dead, and thousands without a place to call home.

Cities like Houston which was one of the hardest hit need all the help they can get. So far many people have come together to help the places that have been affected by the tropical cyclone.

As of today, Trump signed a $15 billion Hurricane Harvey relief bill.

As parts of the US Gulf Coast are still working on reconstructing civilization another storm Katia is due to hit hard in Mexico at a Category 2 borderline 3 on Saturday.

This storm would hit right after as parts of Mexico were hit by the “hardest earthquake it’s seen in the past century,” brutalizing the country’s Pacific coast at an 8.1 magnitude. The earth-shaking quake has killed dozens and as emergency responders dig through the rubble the death toll is predicted to rise.

The quake was so strong it was felt 600 miles away from the epicenter. The trembles lasted for a whole minute bringing down walls and shaking infrastructure.

Besides the Gulf Coast’s hurricanes and the 8.1 Mexican quake, Hurricane Irma and Jose are looking to change the face of the Caribbean as we know it.

Irma is being said to be the most powerful Atlantic storm to make landfall. It hit Barbuda at a Category 5 destroying the face of the tiny island.

According to Barbuda Prime Minister Gaston Browne the hurricane “damaged about 95% of the buildings on the island.”

Actor Robert De Niro, the owner of Paradise Found Nobu resort in Barbuda, has expressed his concerns for the island and the welfare of the citizens.

He told the NY Daily News he promises to lend a helping hand in the reconstruction of the island,

“We are beyond saddened to learn of the devastation in Barbuda caused from Hurricane Irma and look forward to working with the Paradise Found Nobu team, the Barbuda Council, GOAB and the entire Barbuda community to successfully rebuild what nature has taken away from us…”

Hurricane Irma has pushed through Cuba and the Bahamas and it’s looking to hit Florida at a Category 4 with winds up to 150 mph.

According to The New York Times, the Florida Keys are “at risk of ‘life-threatening inundation.'”

After Irma hits, Hurricane Jose will follow up packing a Category 4 punch. In Jose’s path, Barbuda is looking to get hit again along with Antigua, St. Martin, and St. Barthelemy.

SHEESH!

According to Colorado State meteorologist, Phillip Klotzbach, this will be the first time on record that there have been two storms in the Atlantic with 150+ mph storms simultaneously.

MOTHER EARTH IS TRYING TO TELL US SOMETHING!!

As of today, there have been over 100 earthquakes in Idaho this week. According to the Idaho State Journal,

“There were 25 quakes on Wednesday, 20 on Tuesday, 28 on Monday, 34 throughout the day on Sunday and 34 on Saturday night. All 141 of the quakes were reported by University of Utah Seismograph Stations.”

Although the quakes are small and no one has been hurt by the tremors, could this be foreshadowing an even bigger catastrophic event? Most experts say no but possibilities of an even larger quake could threaten the Potato State.

Let’s not forget that the state of Montana has been burning because of a severe drought. Along with Montana, fires flared up and down California, from Los Angeles to Sacramento.

Idaho, Utah, Oregon, and Washington are smoldering too.

According to the NYT, “as of Thursday, the National Interagency Fire Center reported, Montana had 21 active, large fires covering about 438,000 acres.”

ABC News counted “78 large wildfires burning in eight western states, including Montana, Idaho, Oregon, Washington and California.”

We found the person behind this viral video of the Eagle Creek fire. So, who took the shot? A novice photographer in the billing department of a company she’d rather not name, who lives in Vancouver, Wash. “I don’t golf at all,” Kristi McCluer said over the phone on Thursday morning. Instead, she said, “I have spent a great part of my life in the Columbia River Gorge, hiking.” So when the Eagle Creek fire began, she decided she needed to see it for herself. “It’s a real photo,” she confirmed, of the picture of people golfing as the fire roars. She did lighten it a little bit, but other than that, the photo captures the moment. Visit www.oregonlive.com/wildfires to read more. #EagleCreek #Wildfire #photography

Oh, by the way, a study was released this Monday that pointed towards early signs of the biggest extinction since the dinosaurs.

According to the Washington Post,

“The populations of nearly 9,000 vertebrate species, including mammals such as cheetahs, lions, and giraffes, have significantly declined between 1900 and 2015. Almost 200 species have gone extinct in the past 100 years alone — a rate of two per year. The study says the losses are indicative of the planet’s ‘ongoing six major extinction events’ and has cascading consequences for human life on Earth.”

It’s looking really fucking grim.

Setor Tsikudo

Meet Setor Tsikudo, the NYC photographer with an unmatched drive

If you mix self-belief, creativity, and intuition and apply that combination to your vision, success will be attainable.

For NYC photographer Setor Tsikudo these are the ingredients that have allowed him to snap pictures of famous music artists and their fans at the wildest events.

His aesthetic goes way beyond just snapping a picture on his iPhone 7+ and uploading it to the Gram. He adopted a covert technique, going right to the center of crowds at shows, giving way to a “right in the moment” style.

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bm8rd4YBNim/?hl=en&taken-by=tsikudo_

The man behind the lens is even more intriguing and his respect for the craft is unmatchable.

We caught up with Tsikudo to see what’s really good with his unique style and photographic brand. As he told us, this all felt like divine intervention,

“It’s crazy how the universe helps you move towards pursuing your passion.”

Tsikudo’s decision to pursue his passion didn’t come right away. He decided to chase his dreams after losing two offers from Ernest & Young. What would you do in order to succeed? Tsikudo made the choice to bust his ass for his passion rather than money.

“I was chasing the money and not my dreams. That’s a recipe for misery and regret. My first step was thinking, ‘what do I actually what to do regardless of the odds?’ When I lost those offers at EY, I had to have a real moment with myself to decide if I wanted to go back to working at firms and busting my ass till 2 am every night for something I wasn’t passionate about, or bust my ass till 2 am trying to get a dope shot of an artist. I chose busting my ass for my passion.”

Fuck a corporate 9 to 5 hustling for someone who just sees you as a number. Tsikudo gambling all his chips on his photography career was one of the best decisions he’s ever made.

He went full throttle getting himself access into events thanks to apps like Songkick, which allows music fans to keep up with their favorite artists while they’re on tour.

Tsikudo would then go on the hunt searching for the right events and who to contact for press passes, which he sometimes didn’t even receive.

So, how’d he gain access when the plug didn’t come through? Finessing the situation.

“Most passes go to blogs or publications over freelancers and also as a freelancer you always have to be on the hunt for the right events first and then worry about how you are getting access. I owe the majority of my success to an app called Songkick.”

Tsikudo explained that sometimes you just gotta hustle and find specific contacts to get into the right situation,

“With Songkick, I basically get a schedule and information on every music event happening. The app lets me know when tickets are going on sale and where the shows take place. After this step, it comes down to identifying who I need to email. Sometimes I finesse these situations where I can’t gain press access by buying two tickets and resealing one at an inflated price to offset the cost for me. Of course this only works with big names or trendy artist.”

One of his most exciting shoots thus far was when he got to see Frank Ocean perform at Panorama Music Festival this past July. Ocean’s amazing set made the music festival rank within the top three concerts Tsikudo has ever experienced.

But although he was a huge fan he didn’t let a moment pass by where he was unfocused.

“Hands down, Frank Ocean was that person. I got the chance to see him at Panorama Music Festival this past July and that was by far my top three favorite concerts ever. His set was just simply amazing. In regards to the excitement and being a fan of an artist I shoot, It’s sad to say, but with time your excitement for big artist decline. You develop a sense of numbness to stardom that takes the awe of these experiences. I am so ingrained to getting good content that everything else is irrelevant. That’s what’s important versus having a fan moment.”

Frank Ocean | July 2017

A post shared by Setor Tsikudo (@tsikudo_) on

One thing that I admire about Tsikudo is his persistence and endurance to hold strong even when he has to go against the current.

Besides the peeving process of copping access to shows, the daily struggle also entails getting paid. Tsikudo stressed the importance of building a brand for yourself as a photographer,

“The most frustrating part to me is a tie between getting access or getting paid. It’s honestly a daily struggle. It’s almost impossible to find artist’s management contact to get passes, and even when you do get access most people aren’t willing to pay you because they can find another photographer who would be willing to do it either cheaper than you or for free. That’s why creating a brand as a photographer is essential to seeing success.”

Building his brand intertwines with a respect for the craft of photography. You can’t just say you’re a photographer because you have a camera, it takes years to get nice with it.

Don’t sleep on his skillset.

“For me, the biggest misconception is this is a skillset. With camera technology becoming more and more accessible every year, people are able to get their hands on camera equipment that in the past was just way too expensive. This has opened up the gate to a lot of people to self-proclaim themselves as photographers when in actuality they shouldn’t because they haven’t studied this craft. I mean there are basic things people don’t understand about the camera that you just absolutely can’t call yourself a photographer, especially if you don’t even know how to focus it. I want people to understand that this is a craft. It takes time to get good. I’m not even there yet and I’ve been at this for six years now. Respect the craft is what I’m getting at.”

Tsikudo’s eye sees past concerts and fans as he loves to capture portraits and is infatuated with beauty shots. “I capture a lot of portraits. In fact, love beauty shoots.”

https://www.instagram.com/p/BnzLOW8hcFy/?hl=en&taken-by=tsikudo_

Tsikudo’s obsession with his craft is admirable.

His aesthetic developed unintentionally. The energy felt from his shots makes the viewer feel like they are right there at the stage.

“I’ve developed an aesthetic unintentionally. When I first started out getting access to shows was very difficult, so most times I was shooting from the crowd. My shots are mostly first person POV of a fan who is right in front moshing or singing their heart out. I’ve learned with time you develop an eye for certain shots and from there you begin to develop a style.”

https://www.instagram.com/p/BmEHuOhBpK2/?hl=en&taken-by=tsikudo_

The NYC-based photographer has a huge list of priorities he wants to check off. At the top of the list of someone, he wants to shoot, stands President Barack Obama. He sees Obama as a beacon and the “epitome of achievement.”

“To me, [Obama] is the most iconic figure of our time. Shooting President Obama is one of those things I want to show my kids in the future. I want to show them that photo and tell them about how great this man was. Obama is the epitome of achievement. I want to show my kids that anything is possible and Obama definitely signifies that.”

How will he get there? A complete rebrand of self. As he grows within his career, Tsikudo sees branding as an opportunity for an artist to showcase their identity, land gigs, and gain bigger clientele.

“My number one priority right now is rebranding myself. Branding is needed as you grow. It allows you the opportunity to showcase your identity and skill set as an artist/photographer. This, in turn, gives way to landing gigs and gaining bigger clientele.”

Tsikudo added,

“Later this year I’ll be creating a portrait series again, but this time around my focus for subjects will be musicians. I believe this will get me outside my norm of shooting concerts and events, giving way to explore editorial style shooting. Creating images of high caliber that can be seen on album covers or magazine features.”

https://www.instagram.com/p/BnASMqKhiGk/?hl=en&taken-by=tsikudo_

Another skill Tsikudo is looking to add to his covert and street photography expertise – editorial style shoots and cover art for music artists.

“My thing has always been more covert and street photography. As I’ve progressed with my skillset I’ve taken more interest in studio work. I want to move into the editorial style shoot, more specifically with cover art for music artists.”

For young aspiring photographers, this is definitely someone’s lane you want to follow – individualistic, social, and confident.

Tsikudo’s message for the youth dem is oh so inspirational.

“I would say if it’s where you wanna be, then don’t give up. Also, don’t compare yourself to anyone because everyone’s path is different. How one person comes up, will be different than you. I have this problem myself of comparing myself to other photographers out there and had to realize that Setor’s story and journey is Setor’s story and journey. How one person makes their Starbucks drink is totally different than someone else.”

He added,

“It’s ok to look to people for inspiration, but trying to emulate them won’t do you any good. You are good enough. With music photography, you have to look at yourself as a photographer and as a business person within the music industry. Networking is the main way to excel in the music industry. It’s not always about what you know, but it’s more than likely about who you know. Whether you’re the best photographer or the worse, your networks get you access.”

Be yourself, follow your vision, and good things will happen.

A$AP Rocky drops ‘Flacko Jodye’ vaporizers to get you smacked

A$AP Rocky and luxury vape company Kandy Pens just made vaping piff a little bit more stylish. The collaborative effort to create the Flacko Jodye “Walnut” Collection was definitely worth the year-long wait.

It was only a matter of time before Rocky ventured into the vape world. Rocky’s fire design ideas working with clothing brands such as Adidas, Alexander Wang, Dior, and Guess only prove that his influence is straight gas and he has an impressive eye for aesthetics.

Kandy Pens has also worked with the likes of Kodak Black, PNB Rock, Sonny Digital, Young M.A., Zoey Dollaz, DJ Esco, and XXXTentacion. The vape company has been featured in multiple rap videos.

The Cool Kids are back with an album and sketch comedy show

The highly anticipated Shit Show finally dropped yesterday and it had me in the coffin from start to finish. The sketch comedy show, created by Jimmy Regular and Chicago rap duo The Cool Kids, proved itself to be — well, uh, different.

The first episode labeled “SHIT SHOW ISSUE 001” opens up with a colorful vortex that sucks you into a white backdrop with an explosive title, which commences to be shot by a machine gun synchronized with a tuff ass beat.

This is definitely something to watch dumb high.

Switching to the opening scene Hannibal Buress introduces The Cool Kids in a unique way making sure you don’t mistake the Chitown rap duo for any other group. Sir Michael Rocks then asks Buress if he’s ever scared when he smokes the piff.

The clip of Mikey paranoid off a fat L had me rollin.

The Shit Show fits right into the trippy content being created in these oh so psychedelic times. Cameos of a fan admiring Key!, Twista balancing a poolstick on a cue ball, Chance the Rapper chopping it up with The Cool Kids, “Dipset Freestyles” with Tyler the Creator and A$AP Rocky all make the show wild interesting.

I can’t forget the advice rapper K E I T H  gives us on how to get high in NYC, the fugazi version of Trumpito, Sir Micheal Rocks taking on a persona of a sauced news reporter “Lance Bingemton,” and Chuck English playing the part of a legendary Chicago old head Clarence.

Chief Keef, Wale, and Pouya are also featured briefly.

The comedy sketch is worth watching and will have you crying from laughter. Peep it for yourself below.

Make sure you check out The Cool Kids musical comeback with their album Special Edition Grandmaster Deluxe, due to drop on September 15th.

RMB Justize

TGOD producer RMB Justize is making waves in the music industry

Versatility and persistence are a deadly combination of characteristics. They are much-needed weapons to have in an artist’s arsenal of traits.

For Taylor Gang’s in-house producer RMB Justize, these are the qualities that got him nominated for a Grammy for Best Rap Album of the Year.

At the 2015 Grammy Awards, Justize was recognized for his ill production skills, working alongside Sledgren on Wiz Khalifa’s Blacc Hollywood songs “Raw” and “We Dem Boyz”(Remix).

Those are not the only hits Justize has in the bank as he has also been credited for his production input on Wiz Khalifa’s Cabin Fever, (The OG Wiz throwback), TGOD affiliates J.R. Donato’s Why So Serious and several of Chevy Woods’ projects including Red Cup Music and Gangland.

Lest not forget to mention his amazing work on Amerikas Addiction’s EP Four.

https://soundcloud.com/amerikasaddiction/sets/amerikas-addiction-x-rmb

It seems as if there will be more hits to come as Justize stepped out of his producer element in June and blessed the streets with his debut album, Origami.

Kulture Hub caught up with the Chicago-based artist to see what has gotten him to this point in his music career.

One unique fact about the TGOD producer, the first song he remembers playing that had an influence on his musical ear was “I’m Blue” by Eiffel 65.

“The first CD I really remember was .. drumroll .. Eiffel 65 “I’m Blue” – that was the trippiest electronic shit I’ve ever heard [laughs]. So it put a whole new twist to everything as well.”

Amongst the trippy track, “I’m Blue,” some of Chitown’s homegrown music also had a huge influence on the way Justize hears certain sounds.

“Chicago definitely did have its influence- listening to everyone from Twista and Do or Die to Crucial Conflict, CWAL, DA Smart etc – all played a role in how I hear certain sounds, and what I think makes everything slap.”

Justize’s ear solidified a position working as an in-house producer with Wiz’s Taylor Gang.

He has always tried to outdo himself and Wiz being attracted to his sound from early on only pushed him to create new and versatile music.

“In a nutshell, I’ve always tried to outdo myself and keep a versatile sound that stands out simultaneously… Wiz was definitely one of the first to like my production, which of course motivates me to push the envelope all over again. Persistence is key for sure.”

“Pushing the envelope,” proved to work for Justize as he took the next step releasing Origami. The debut album is a very dope listen. Slapping snares, a booming bass, lyrics that are sung with emotion, and dope features encapsulate the sound of this LP.

I’ve gone through Origami from beginning to end countless times and the powerful rhythms and honest lyrics still got me trippin’. Touching on the creative process of Origami, Justize wanted to ensure he conveyed a message that would evoke feelings from his listeners.

“I wanted to make an album that showed pure emotion. I wasn’t too big on emphasizing structure but it ended up telling somewhat of a story in the end. I basically would make the beats at my apartment, and record vocals midway through the beat process – then later mix and car test everything. Looking at the tracklist, the songs almost are in the order I created them. Another shout out to my bro Wiz for the “Summertime” track. Perfect end to the album, I think.”

You’re a fool if you don’t see the next couple of years being successful for Justize. Besides working on his own music, his movement with producer and artist collective GlitchRealm is very unique.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BEtbVGgyaCx/

It definitely has me hype AF as the production team includes Justize along with Sledgren, DeedotWill, and Jacobi.

“GlitchRealm is a collective of producers and artists, focused on all sorts of experimental music, to say the least. A lot of people look at it as unpredictable, and I love it. There’s no telling what might come from us, at all. The producers are me, Sledgren, DeedotWill, and Jacobi. Stay tuned is all I’ll say [laughs].”

Distinguishing himself as a producer and artist has also helped to establish him as a threat in the music game. This factor is major key to Justize,

“I think the recognition is very important because the game is spooky, I tell you. Ghost producers, all that. Standing out and distinguishing yourself is key, to me at least. It’s almost becoming too easy for people to get a hold of your material, manipulate it, and make it theirs basically.”

To add, RMB is working within different realms of production and new artists to expand his craft.

“Right now I’m just continuing the Origami campaign and producing for a lot of new artists. I actually just helped work on a silent movie score with a quartet so I’m anxious to see how things play out with that. Aside from that, working on a few artists projects, including MattyDidThat (CoolNeighbors) as well.”

His passion for music and his incredible work ethic has kept the Chicago kid going thus far.

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bt1avFaAp8q/

Justize’s message for young producers trying to make it in the music game falls in line with just that.

“I’d really say at the end of the day, keep working. Keep striving, no matter how stressful or difficult. If you have the passion for it, it’ll never seem like you’re working. Never put yourself in a box, and explore all the opportunities that come your way. Trust me on that.”

So go get on that producer software and never put yourself in a box!

Brooklyn man gets stuck in sinkhole because of demons reaping his soul

Some poor soul in BK was the victim of a sinkhole incident.

At the intersection of Myrtle Ave & Walworth St, FDNY responded to an emergency call regarding Steven Suarez who got one of his legs eaten by a tiny asphalt pit.

The Daily News reported, “Steven Suarez was pushing a hand truck and crossing a street in Clinton Hill shortly after 11 a.m. when the ground gave way beneath his feet and trapped him in the crosswalk for nearly an hour.”

Peep the Sinkhole that almost peaced Suarez

Can you imagine minding your own business when suddenly you just get sucked in by the streets? I would just start praying for my soul not to be taken by whatever is underneath me.

Suarez was shook as he had no idea what the fate of his entire right leg would be.

He told the the Daily News, “It was terrifying,” said Suarez, 33, of Staten Island. “I didn’t know what was going on. I didn’t know whether I was going to sink into the floor or what was happening. I was scared. It was my whole entire right leg, up until my tailbone basically.”

Mind you this happened at an intersection so cars were still driving by Suarez’s 3/4 of a body. It was not until pedestrians tried to stop the cars passing by, some traffic cops pulled up, the fire department arrived, and 10 minutes of slow tugging that Suarez was freed from the hole.

“There were cars speeding and passing me, and the pedestrians were trying to stop them. Then the police came and they were controlling the traffic around me until the fire department came down. It was five to 10 minutes. But when I was down there, I wasn’t paying attention to the time, I just wanted to get out.”

Sheesh! The funny part Suarez told his boss at King County Auto Body he wanted to drive today but his boss rightfully declined and said, “it’s not raining yet, walk.”

What a dick.

Most importantly Suarez will be OK as he was taken to the hospital for minor trauma to his leg. Also according to Daily News the “The 5-inch wide, 2-foot deep” pothole will be filled with asphalt.

How Kendrick Lamar became the most marketable man in hip-hop

Straight out of Bompton, CA Kendrick Lamar is the definition of hope. Mr. Duckworth has seen it all on the streets of Compton. Witnessing his first murder at 5, Lamar is no stranger to precarious street violence.

From a young age he realized that where you grow up has a direct influence on who you are. Check out what Kendrick said in an interview with Vibe reminiscing on the murder he witnessed,

“It was outside my apartment unit. A guy was out there serving his narcotics and somebody rolled up with a shotgun and blew his chest out. Admittedly, it done something to me right then and there. It let me know that this is not only something that I’m looking at, but it’s something that maybe I have to get used to — you dig what I’m saying,”

Lamar not only “got used to it,” he took something he loved, combined it with his own story and created who he is today – Kendrick Lamar.

Lamar’s mind was exposed to rap at the young age of 9, when Tupac and Dr. Dre pulled up to a Compton swap meet on Rosecrans.

Lamar watched Dre from his daddy’s shoulders rapping and driving around his neighborhood that day. Who would think that he would be collaborating with one of the world’s best producers 15 years later?

It must’ve been mind blowing when his camp, TDE, closed the game changing joint venture deal with Interscope back in 2012. After the deal Lamar went on to create music masterpieces. His force became one to be reckoned with.

So far on his musical journey Lamar has racked up plaques making space on his shelves for 7 Grammy’s, 2 RIAA platinum plaques, a RIAA gold plaque, and not to mention the six Moon Men he took home from this past VMAs.

And, Lamar entered the world of fashion to change it forever. In 2017 closed a massive endorsement in with Nike.

It is not usual to hear a lot about Kendrick Lamar,  unlike many other artists, he prefers to stay out of the limelight. Yet every now and then, the internet flooded with news about the Compton rapper because he is, most likely, changing the world.

Hurricane Harvey is bringing the music world together to support Houston

Hurricane Harvey devastatingly touched down on the southern coast of Texas Friday at 9:45 am as a Category 4 storm. The storm’s destructive path left many with flooded out homes and no place to go.

At landfall, winds reached up to 130 mph before hitting the shore again at Copano Bay, this time as a Category 3 hurricane, according to the New York Times.

Louisiana, which was hit hard by Hurricane Katrina 12 years ago, might see flooding along with parts of Mississippi and southern Arkansas.

What was the driving force behind Harvey’s catastrophic destruction? Its heavy rainfall that stretched along the state’s Gulf Coast from Corpus Christi to Houston, and inland to Austin and San Antonio.

This is not a small storm. Harvey continues to rip through the southern shoreline of Texas. The storm is expected to dump more than 50 inches of rain in some areas.

As for casualties, five have been reported dead and more than a dozen injured. The numbers will continue to rise.

Houston, the fourth largest city in the U.S., has been hit the hardest. Magnolia City’s roads are impassable as millions of people are at risk trapped in their homes because of torrential rainfall and flooding.

#PrayforHouston

Although this might be one of the most historical hurricanes to hit the U.S., the city did not order evacuations before the storm. According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, an estimated 1,500 to 2,000 water rescues have taken place in the wake of Hurricane Harvey.

Officials said about 56,000 911 calls have been made in the wake of the weekend storm. The emergency system is overwhelmed and officials are advising not to call unless it is a dire situation.

As Harvey continues to unleash its wrath our prayers here at Kulture Hub go out to those who are suffering. Artists and celebrities are also taking to social media to express their sympathies for the victims of the wind storm.

Joey Bada$$ forced to cancel tour after burning eyes from looking at eclipse

Seems as if Joey Bada$$ might have to make a name change to Joey Wonder.

After watching the solar eclipse that took place earlier this week, the Brooklyn rapper took to Twitter cancelling a grip of shows on Logic’s Everybody Tour, “Due to unforeseen circumstances.”

Although there were countless warnings from astronomers and news sources to not look into the eclipse, BadA$$ didn’t heed. Looking for validation he questioned his followers on Twitter, he asked “Am I crazy for watching the eclipse today w no glasses?”

Joey then went on to validate his sun gazing via Twitter stating “pretty sure our ancestors ain’t have no fancy eyewear. Also pretty sure they ain’t all go blind.”

As many know, watching a solar eclipse without any protective gear is extremely dangerous. Actually, glazing at the sun for too long during any of its celestial phases is just straight-up stupid.

But no worry Joey, going completely blind from staring at a solar eclipse is an overstatement. According to  Live Science,

The light of an eclipse really can damage your eyes — though warnings of total blindness may be overstated. The condition is called solar retinopathy, and it occurs when bright light from the sun floods the retina on the back of the eyeball. The retina is home to the light-sensing cells that make vision possible. When they’re over-stimulated by sunlight, they release a flood of communication chemicals that can damage the retina. This damage is often painless, so people don’t realize what they’re doing to their vision.

Keep those retinas on fleek Joey might need to use them later

Doc said I gotta keep these on in the daytime now…. a lil annoying but they’re pretty fire
