Meet the Woo: How Pop Smoke is shaking up the BK drill movement
“I’m not an artist. I’m a gangster.”
Brooklyn rapper Pop Smoke is on one hell of a come up and after attending his TIDAL mixtape release party for Meet The Woo at SNS Bar NYC, many realized, his sound might just be here to stay.
His single “Welcome to the Party” hit the streets this spring and left us wanting more. But, now, as the rapper looks to take over the radiowaves with Meet the Woo, what else should we expect?
His raspy and grimy sound already has people calling themselves a thot, getting lit, shooting pretend bullets out of a gun-shaped hand, and doing the most. It might be the way he, somehow, ties together West Indian influences and a BK aura over the hard-hitting beats of UK’s drill producer 808Melo.
Tracks like “Hawk Em” had the crowd at SNS wilin’ and heads were knocking heavy as the random beat pops vibrated through everyone’s body. Necks were breaking and bodies were being moved as Pop Smoke let everyone know that the Woo had arrived.
“If you like big chains, big cars, big watches, and you love living beautiful… that’s woo. It’s a lifestyle.”
What’s not to love about this OG? His sound is fire as hell and his bars leave their mark. And although his flow is “oh so RASPY” the way each lyric resonates with his listeners proves that his fans are listening very closely.
So are Nicki Minaj and YG…

On some real shit, his music presents itself differently than a lot of the rap we’re hearing today and its frightful British grime sound keeps the heart rate up for sure. The same can be said for his nine-track release.
From “Meet the Woo” and “Better Have Your Gun” to “PTSD” and “Brother Man” all who listen to the Canarsie artist will be sucked into the story that is Pop Smoke’s. Hopefully, the up and coming trapper will continue to release heat and takeover a lane that can truly only be driven in by him.
Make sure you keep your ears to the streets and bump Meet the Woo below.
